Why does it have to be first generation?? 99% of the Irish in America came over in the 1860s, like all of my ancestors. I am full-blooded Irish-American, but all of my grandparents were born here in approx. 1900 to immigrant parents.

Ok Dennis.. you're right why split the group.. if you're Irish then you're Irish.! haha
I called myself 1st Gen due to My Parents being born in Ireland.and moving here.. I was the 1st in the family to be born on US soil. But hell you're right Irish is Irish!!! Now if we could only out number the damn Scotsmen on this BBS! ahahahahaah!

I guess I am quazi-sorta Irish/American. Great-grandparents on both sides were from the "old country" (Cork region). Like a lot of the Irish immigrants, they dropped the "O" prefix from our last name when they became US citizens (or so I'm told).

I'm an American, first and foremost. My mom and dad were 1st generation Irish and Greek, respectively.
IMHO, the "distinction" here in the US between Irish and Scots is overblown. We're Celts, all, and I'd just as soon buy a Scotsman a drink as a Mick. The Irish guy would buy me one back, however. ![]() JP (John Patrick)
