Heard John Dean tonight
Went to a lecture tonight that featured John Dean and his latest book, "Worse than Watergate" - for you younger guys, Dean was former Council to President Nixon who eventually exposed Nixon's role in the coverup. He sure had a lot of damning things to say about the current administration. He's been around a lot and experienced much in his political career. Dean is no flaming liberal, but I think a thoughtful man who sees a disturbing view of the way the administration is operating - even comparing GW with Nixon in their view of their role in the world.
I was amazed to hear his account of his research into who Deep Throat is/was (the person leaking Watergate info to Bernstein/Woodward). Probably old news by now, but he deconstructed a 900 page manuscript from Bernstein/Woodward's "All the President's Men", laid out a time line of Deep Throat's leaks with events occuring at that time, then cross-referenced those leaks/events with a list of potential "throats" and their relationship to those events. Talk about tenacious. Does this guy have a life? Haven't read his book yet, but will. Dessenters? Sherwood |

John Dean is a gutless pussy. When he got caught breaking the law instead of taking it like a man he pussies out and starts pointing fingers at everyone else. I wouldn't piss on Dean if he was on fire.

He's probably part of the communist plot that controls the liberal media and is attacking Poor Dubya with the prisoner abuse investigation. If we didn't know better, we might assume that the American people are entitled to the truth. Only a liberal would think that, so Dean must be a liberal, and therefore a communist.
Watergate was fun, but eventually boring. The Timothy Leary/G. Gordon Liddy debates were entertaining during the '80s.

One of my favorite photos of the White House shows Deans 911 parked under the portico, as it often was.
I was trying to find it the other day with no luck. |

oh and also, I spent a Day some years back with Gordon Liddy (a car guy too, BTW) and got to hear, very specifically, HOW he would like kill John Dean with his bare hands.
Liddy is sure that Al Haig was Deepthroat |

So Watergate wasn't a big deal. And the coverup was nothing as well. Gordon Liddy is a car guy - well, can't be all bad. Is that what you think about whistle-blowers?
"Theres a thing called loyalty and it works both ways..." Sounds like loyalty to a guy takes precedence over loyalty to our country and constitution. Have I got that right? Welcome to today's America. Sherwood |

"All he was doing was trying to save his own ass."
Okay, let's assume Dean was doing just that, saving his own ass. However, if he instead decided to keep quiet, continue with the perks of the job and just play along with the other "patriots" on staff, what would we be left with? A President and his men who covertly continue doing what is needed to remain in power, and in so doing, subvert the laws of this country. Even if you agree with Nixon and what he did, is lying something you condone as one privilege of executive power? A recent President was impeached for just that same reason - lying to Congress. Is that also why the Johnson administratiion sealed the Warren Commission report on the assassination of John F. Kennedy, because they wanted the truth to get out? For either party (or philosophy) to say the other lies, and they don't is naive'. They all lie when it suits their purposes, ambitions, and protecting their own butts.
