Really was an eye opener, I feel now some of my own feelings and misgivings were not justified. anyway, one line RR said was "hit one" or "bat one for the old gibber" or something like that. what was the line a reference to ?? cheers

HI Lynn,
yeah just did some surfing and found that, cheers I understand the George Gip bit, but in Reagans victory speech (thinks?) why did he say and what was the relevance of saying ? "Lets win one for the gipper" cheers

Critics said Reagan had a hard time telling the difference between his movies and reality, I really don't know why they would say this.
![]() Pehaps it was more "tounge-in-cheek" than his critics wanted to admit to. Everyone has an opinion ya know.

In the movie (as in real life at Notre Dame University), George Gipp (sp?) was dying and asked his teammates to win for him
I believe Reagan used this line to recommend George Bush the 1st for office, not during his own time there.

Ain't selective memory great?
Nice guy, lovable like a teddy bear, but astute as a box of rocks. I liked him.

I bet his mind was pretty eaten up even during his presidential period.
During all the tributes on TV this week they mentioned Reagan's prolific letters that he personally wrote to people during his presedential period. That reminded me about how lot of those messages were addressed to TV characters congradulating them or consoling them for their fictional actions. Reagan will certainly end up at the top of the list of 'beloved puppet presidents'. |

I'm waiting until he's in the ground to comment on his legacy.
Thought it was funny, though, that I turned on the TV for approximately 40 seconds today and timed it perfectly to see a shot of Bill Clinton at the funeral, struggling to stay awake.

I remember that one of his aide's books claimed that nearly every moment of his public life was scripted, that he could not even greet a guest w/o lines given in advance. It would explain his not recognising the one black member of his cabinet; during a meeting of the national council of mayors, he said to the guy, "hello Mr. Mayor". The aide replied, "Mr. President, I'm a member of your cabinet". Oops.
![]() There wasn't a lot of mourning in black or brown communities this week. Watching the 100,000+ people file past his casket at the library, you'd think that this was still an all-white country. Well, it was Simi Valley, location of the Rodney King trial. It ain't easy finding an all-white community in SoCal to pick a jury, but there are still a couple of pockets of "outer Caucasia". ![]() Still, he was an amazing politician. Those white Republicans in suburbia lost a true hero. The rest of America sees it more like this: ![]()

As usual...the truth lies somewhere in the middle and the rest of it falls to the far left or the far right.
