I guess you didn't read what I said.

Reagan and Clinton's approval ratings were identical *while they were in office.*

Do poor reading skills lead to Republicanism, or does Republicanism lead to poor reading skills?

Oh tech, no need get all pissy now. If that is the case then you can take some solice in knowing you were correct, and a little sadness perhaps in seeing your hero has fallen from grace. Either way, I am pleased to see Americans are waking up to what Clinton was/is.

*click* . I was trying to figure out what the USPS has to do with all this. Finally I got it- "post office" = post-office.

lendaddy: sorry if I gave you the wrong impression, but Limbaugh et. al. have been laboring hard for years to elevate Reagan's legacy. Sympathy over his health problems and a general tendency to 'just like the guy' certainly add up to an unusual alignment of circumstances:

1. People didn't 'speak ill' of the guy for about 10 years because of his tragic medical circumstances. Secondarily, there was Nancy, obviously suffering, but stoic. She didn't insert herself into the political world, and the political world gave the couple a pass.

2. Joe Sixpack doesn't really understand deficit spending.

3. Joe Sixpack doesn't understand Iran/Contra. (Nor, probably, remember it. As you may recall, the upward progress of the Iran/Contra hearings ground to a halt when RR could only testify "I do not recall" 134 times in a single session.)

4. Reagan gets the benefit of the positive things that happened on his watch, and none of the negatives -- thus the contemporaneous nickname "The Teflon President."

Geeze LenD, you give these logic defying leftist more credit than they deserve.

What was that delusional drivel techwee posted?. . .

Here it is:
Quote:
In truth, Reagan was almost *exactly* as popular as Bill Clinton in terms of approval and disapproval ratings through each year of his presidency.
So, when I read that, I just chalked it up to techwee reading the same "news" that widebody gets. I imagine somewhere, somebody played with their poll, and published their numbers. (and the wanting lefties ate it up. . .)

I do believe it is tough to beat a large sample, when it comes to WHO has the bigger, better numbers . . . in this "popularity" contest, weenie is talking about.

The facts:
just under 59% popular vote for Reagan 2nd term.
-vs-
just under 49% popular vote for Clintons 2nd term.

Now if those second term VOTES don't reflect "approval and disapproval ratings" I don't know what does. (some guys poll? )

Foot note:
Reagan recieved more total votes than any president in U.S. history (including Clinton) despite the fact that the nation's population has grown by more than 30 million in the last 20 years.

You guys just can't handle the truth, can you?

No matter how many times you try to spin it, the truth apparently hurts:

--------------------------------

As measured by Gallup polls, Reagan on average had a 53 percent job approval rating in office. He thus trails behind five other post-World War II presidents : John F. Kennedy (70 percent), Dwight Eisenhower (65 percent), George H.W. Bush (61 percent), Lyndon B. Johnson (55 percent), and Bill Clinton (53 percent).

Reagan's job approval rating went up and down during his presidency. He began with low job approval ratings and his overall approval rating was 50 percent for his first term. His ratings were up at the beginning of his second term but fell because of the Iran-Contra affair. His average approval rating was 48 percent in 1987 and 53 percent in 1988, though, like most presidents, he got a final lift in his last month of office, getting a 63 percent approval rating in December 1988.

Reagan's highest job approval rating was 65 percent; all other post-World War II presidents saw higher job approval ratings at some point during their terms.

Reagan personally was seen "favorably" while in office, with about 70 percent seeing him "favorably" on average throughout his presidency and 33 percent seeing him "highly favorably." But again, he trails behind five other presidents in terms of average favorability while in office : Kennedy (88 percent), Eisenhower (84 percent), Johnson (77 percent), Ford (73 percent), and even Nixon (80 percent) saw higher favorability ratings while in office.

---------------

Upon leaving office, Reagan's approval rating was 63% positive, Bill Clinton's, 66% positive. What's that Tom Cruise line in that movie?

Clinton was actually at about 73% just after he was impeached. The public is odd. But like I said now that people are seeing him for what he was/is with a 41% favorable rating. Funny stuff. Tech seems to have good numbers though.

Calm down.

I believe the truth is a lot of people, pittying Clintons predicament, where willing to throw Billy a bone.
. . .quid pro quo, I suppose.

Don't you mean 'what's good for the goose is good for the gander?'

As in 'Clinton threw Monica/Paula/Juanita/Gennifer a bone...' Oh, never mind.

Yeah, the last line (quid pro quo, I suppose) was just an attempt at humor. Since I was leveraging the multiple meaning of "bone" I don't think accuracy really matters all that much . . I wasn't going for accuracy. . just a little humor.

Even if it was, as you say; "good for the goose" (geese?) I don't think Monica/Paula/Juanita/Gennifer would all agree. (on the "good" part, anyway)

I actually tried watching his interview last night. Couldn't do it. I would watch, get digusted and leave. Come back, get disgusted and leave, rinse and repeat. I'll admit it, I loath that guy. He had zero respect for the office or the American people. It really irks me that such a slimeball could reach our highest office. Oh well

Approval ratings?...Reagan won by 2 landslides (the only "ratings" that matter), Clinton on the other hand just squeaked by in both elections (the first election won because of Ross Perot and lies).

Tech, Reagan made his enemies no doubt. He had ideas that flew in the face of liberals. All of these things I understand as being able to irk you. However, I cannot for the life of me imagine what it is that makes you think Reagan did not respect the office, in this regard he is head and shoulders above most. This is almost undebateble.

The misspelling was unintentional, I apologize. If they make you happy, run with it. The part I don't like is that many/most are simply based on incorrect info. It's like a mini MM documentary where the facts don't matter. Again, whatever, if it makes you happy I guess.

Yea you're probably right. I rarely bring up politics unless Iknow the other party enjoys the discussions. So few people actually care, so it just doesn't come up. I just sent the van out for the works, she should be runnin like a dream for my camping trip this weekend, juniors first trip Believe it or not I'm not an a55hole, I have a ton of liberal friends and we've never had a serious argument, just alot of ribbing. These things are important to me, but I'm sure I come accross much more crass online, because well...I can. As far as the crying baby thing, no I'm not really into the surface stuff. I am actually working with an artist now to come up with something that really makes you think. Wow what a pointless rant, I'll stop now

Alright you two, knock that crap off.

The purpose of this thread is NOT "to get past the emotional/anger/angst that results from trying to discuss politics."

If you cant handle the heat. . .

If this continues I will be forced to show you both my VW van. . .water-cooled AND AWD . . .just to piss-off guys like youz.
