Size Wars
It seems like the free webmail companies are going at it again. This time it is all about size. First Yahoo offers 100 megabyte email boxes and then Google increases. Now Hotmail just sent me an email and they have to top everybody with a 250 megabyte email inbox. Let's see do I really need an inbox that big? Simple answer no. We are going to create our computer destruction in no time at all.

All depends on what you use email for. For example, I have a near complete 4 year archive of every single post to the 356Registry's 356Talk email list. 300mb in mailbox format, 500mb when converted to HTML archive format, one message per page, all linked and indexed. My work email, where I trash *nothing* was well over 1gb when I archived it off to DVD a few months ago.

It looks to me like Google started with the free 1 Gig offer that they're piloting. Now all the others are scrambling to look good. Hey, I'll take the extra space.
