Get $100 for your old/dead IPOD

Well, kind of.

Dell is offery a $100 rebate on their player if you send any IPOD into them.

Thought I'd pass it on.... http://www.techweb.com/wire/story/TWB20040701S0001

It's probably worth even more on eBay.

I'm still not sure why people love the iPod. For $60, I got a really nice "walkman" like CD player that also reads MP3s on CD-R. 650mb of music (about 10 hours) on a throw-away cost disk, uses standard AA batteries, etc. Cheapest iPod is well over double that price...

Even for a old/broken unit?
I hear the last generation IPODs are better in the ergonomics department, so maybe the older ones are more desirable.

My iPod holds all my music. I don't have to figure out which CD to carry.

Are you kidding? I have my ENTIRE COLLECTION of music in a box the size of a deck of cards. I tried the MP3 CD thing. It sucks in comparison. And the cost of AA batteries over time is more than the cost of a battery replacement for the iPod.

And yes, a broken iPod is worth more than $100, unless maybe it's an *old* 5GB one (1st gen).

Dell must think people are morons. Oh, wait, people are still using Internet Exploder out there...

Looks like Apple has a pretty tasty promotion going. They are closing in on 95 million iTunes sold right now...

-------------------
When the number of songs downloaded from Apple?s iTunes Music Store crosses 95 million, Apple will begin the countdown to 100 million songs by giving away 50 special 20GB iPods?one to the purchaser of each 100,000th song downloaded between 95 million and 100 million songs. In addition, the person who downloads the 100 millionth song will receive a 17-inch PowerBook, a 40GB iPod, a gift certificate for 10,000 iTunes songs to create the ultimate music library for the iPod and the opportunity to create a Celebrity Playlist to be published on the iTunes Music Store.

-------------------------

Any research will show why the iPod has more of the electronic player market than all other brands combined. Ease of use and the ability to create playlists are high on the list. The complete integration with iTunes is another plus.

There are utilities that add other functions to the iPod as well...
