FYI the Zoo and Science Center are next to each other in Balboa Park. For dinner go to Prado it's next to the museums. Pricey but same price as the food at the Zoo. Science Center was one of my favorites as a kid.
The wild animal park rocks it's in escondido close to Carlsbad. They have a tour where you go out in the simulated plains of Africa and Asia in the back of a flat bed and feed Rhino's and Giraffes, took my girlfriend and she flipped and told everyone about it for at least a month. It was under $200 much cheaper than an African safari.
