He's pissed 'cause he uses windows, and internet explorer, and they use flaws/features in it to do things like change his preferences.

Smart enough to do a whois, smart enough to download and use FireFox or Mozilla.

If I'm not mistaken TuCows owns many many domains.. they are just the owners, or they sold it to the other folks and retained the ownership etc....

I couldn't stand the constant attcks on my browser, so I switched to mozilla... OK so far.

supposedly ( got a bullgaurd e-mail today ) MS is coming out with SP2 for XP.. this is supposed to address all the problems. They are loosing market share hand over fist to Mozilla and Netscape based products.

I will probably go back to IE after I get the SP2 , but at the first sign of problems.... Mozilla here I come..

I would recommend switching to an alternative till august, then do the same.

Don

I have to use Windows at work (Navy contract), and it's miserable. Home boxen run Linux, and it's beautiful. My room-mate, of course, runs Windows with IE and Outlook -- the worst possible combination of anything. My goal is to first wean him off Outlook, then IE, then start using OpenOffice. We'll get to Linux eventually. (sigh)

Someone used my CPU here at work, and got me the CoolWebsites virus. Now that one is BAD. Took me 4 hours to clean it. Fun fun fun.

One problem is, people can't resist free **** thrown at them on the web that's 'free', like screen savers, dancing cursors, etc. They don't make the connection between the dancing baloney with 'why is my computer so slow'.

The ones that install themselves without any human intervention are malware, plain and simple.

I'm hoping FireFox will prevent this crap. However, I need to set a fortress up so this kind of stuff doesn't get near me in the first place.

Effects of similar Malware are:

- Internet Options is not available from the IE tool bar
- Can only go to one website. All others are redirected
- Cannot change homepage
- Unwanted toolbars
- Random site redirects
