Aircraft question

The winning bidder on the sports seat auction being discussed on the tech board here gave the name "Grummantiger78".. So, what's a Grumman Tiger????

Google is your friend.

Actually nothing came up until I added some spaces between the words.

The Grumman Tiger was a 180hp 4 seater that is basically like a Cheetah which I believe was 150hp and also 4 seats. These were offshoots of the Grumman Yankee which was a 108hp 2 seater.

The original was designed by Jim Bede (same guy who designed the "pocket plane" BD 5 of James Bond fame). They were originally built by American Aviation and at some point Grumman aquired the rights.

I had a 1974 Grumman 108 hp (AA1B 108/115hp). It was an agile little plane but not much fun on a hot day with full fuel and two people on board while trying to take off from an 1800' long grass strip!

Castoring nosewheel was the best part. Opening canopy meant the Targa feel in flight.
