Need help from home audio experts
How about a non-political topic for a change? I have an old school home audio set up that I'd like to update for home theater use. I have a Yamaha M60 power amp, a Yamaha C60 control amp, a DBX range expander, an ADC equalizer and a pair of JBL studio monitor speakers. I don't remember what the amp and speakers are rated at but they're plenty powerful enough for me and the neighbors. My question is, what else would I need to convert my stereo into a home theater system. I bought these pieces when I was stationed overseas about twenty years ago and they still produce really clear sound. Plus, they have sentimental value. So even if I should start from scratch, I won't dump this system. Instead, they'll go into my office. However, I'd rather not buy an entirely new system. That'll mean less money for Porsche parts.

They have some great Bose-style cubes (sold as speaker-only packages) you could use for your rear speakers and center channel. (A small powered sub would make a decent addition, too.) I'm not familiar w/ your amp, does it have 5ch output? If it does, you'd have sound coming out of all speakers, although depending on how old that Yamaha is, it may not be surround per se. Your other option is to get a low end set, complete w/ amp/receiver and all 5 spkrs and a sub, and use your own speakers as your fronts. C-soundworks' "systems" are good value, but you would end up replacing your receiver/amp. To go for a real basic set up, have you run your tv sound out of the JBLs yet? Just having tv's signal amplified and put through those speakers would make a world of difference.
