Democratic Convention -- What's the point?

"FOUR DAYS" !?

I just heard Ter-eeez-zaa Heinz Kerry go on about "John's smile. . . going to Saturn, Jupiter (What, no Uranus?) . ..aren't we all so wonderful. . . yadda yadda. No substance, just filler.

So what do they say for FOUR DAYS!? Why does anyone listen?

I would think that a test-tone would be as about worthwhile.

jyl 07-27-2004 07:19 PM

Well, the Republican Convention will go on for three days. Is the extra day what makes one a test-tone and one a worthy event?

island911 07-27-2004 07:26 PM

I'm not saying the Republican Convention is a worthy event.

Though it is a bit more respectable of the Republicans keeping their test-tone short.

Though, the Bush team does have more to talk about than 3, 30 years ago.

Funny, island, I would have thought you'd be rivited by the action--open-minded and generally interested as you are. Never expected a critical word from you about the convention.

island911 07-27-2004 07:29 PM

"rivited by the action" - Ha!

Mulholland 07-27-2004 07:52 PM

This convention is about two johns and a lot of bull*****.

I was absolutely captivated by Clinton, I must say. That lying POS could sell icecubes to Eskimos.

Rush Limbaugh slaughtered Clinton today with how own words

Assertion #1: Clinton claims the Bush administration "walked away from our allies in attacking Iraq,"

There are in fact four of these, actually five of these. In this one paragraph there are five assertions made that are totally inaccurate. They're totally wrong -- and I just need to close the loop on the first one. This is where Clinton claims the Bush administration walked away from our allies in attacking Iraq. We did not walk away from allies! We begged; we went to the UN. We spent 14 months at the United Nations trying to put together a coalition. We walked away from nothing, but at some point the president decides that the defense of this country is our responsibility and he's not going to leave it up to France and Germany. France and Germany made an aggressive and conscious effort to undermine our efforts at the United Nations, and I wonder this. Why exactly does President Clinton side with the French and the Germans rather than his own country, particularly when the merits of the argument are on the side of his own country?

Actually stopped what I was doing (installing a Carrera Tail ) to watch Obama and Heinz-Kerry speak.

Worth every minute.

Obama - very karismatic. Heard him referred to as a "Tiger Woods". Interesting to see if he can deliver on that analogy as his carreer progresses.

First time I have seen Heinz-Kerry , and I was impressed. I can see why the Republicans tried to recruit her as a Senator after her 1st husband died. She's a sharp cookie with determination and HP. Glad she turned them down.

She would make a great first lady IMHO.SmileWavy

Obama is the real deal. I saw him a couple of time here in Chicago. Very impressive, very honest, brutally bright. I'm sure Mul and Rush will find out that he did horrible things while at Harvard or accuse him of abandoning his family in Kenya, but he'll go a long way.

BillyIdaho 07-27-2004 08:14 PM

Yes, he is going to be the one everyone has their eyes on.

Liked Reagan's speech, as well. Great message.

I think it was worth it just to hear Teresa say "Shove it!" What an accent! Sort of like a pissed-off Barbara Eden.

RoninLB 07-27-2004 08:33 PM

Kerry doesn't appear to be much of a leader when Clinton is around.

But you have to believe conservatives telling the truth belong in jail, but a liar and a sex offender belonged in the White House. So maybe Kerry will create his own scandals to sway the independants? If the Dems get bored without any new scandals Hillary is in waiting.. and her 10pc crooked record is wild entertainment. Then you have to believe that Hillary Clinton is normal and is a very nice person...

But the problem with the "shove it" comment was that she did indeed say "anti-American." The reporter humbly - almost demurely - asked her what she meant and she snapped and went at the guy aggressively. She then attempted to impugn him because he was from one of the 1% of newspapers that has a conservative bend.

After JFKerry (he is historically fond of his initials don't ya know) fell several times snowboarding, was confronted by reporters about falling, his response was "I never fall, that son of a b!tch tripped me" (or something like that - regarding his Secret Service detail).

Two for two...Two megalomaniac opportunists not admitting their faults and snapping at innocent bystanders...Dangerous.

The moment something comes out that is credible Beet, believe me, that very moment...Rush Limbaugh doesn't have his massive listenership for making historical errors. Conservatives hate being misled, Democrats have to mislead in order to get any traction.

My only criticism of Obama is he looks really really angry, and that scares me in a black man (or white man for that matter).

Oh ya, and he is a ultra-leftist (sorta mainstream nowadays, I know)

dd74 07-27-2004 08:51 PM

Well, Mul, I'm not going to go as far as characterize both by their use of foul language - it's actually quite refreshing. After all, who gives a damn about the high road anymore? Any high road for that matter.

I think the "shove it" useage entailed how she presented what she called un-American. "Un-American actions" and "un-American activities" was the discrepancy, as I heard it. But I don't know - I like a little fire in the first lady. That way I don't mind despising them for being loudmouths once their boys are put in office.

What sickens me is the way CNN is fawning all over Kerry et al, Clinton, and the rest. Please! One wouldn't think the network was once owned by ultra-liberal Ted Turner, would they?

Nor did I, again I am more concerned about the context, and the irrational reaction in that context, than the content of what was said.

I suppose I like a little fire also, but when properly placed...Dick Cheney telling Patrick "leaky" Leahy to F himself for trying to photo-op with him, after Leahy consistently lying and stabbing Cheney in the back, is a justified reaction and consistent with righteous fire.

Beethoven 07-27-2004 09:09 PM

On the senate floor?? Whatever...
Calling Obama angry is a knee-jerk, pre-Birmingham reaction. Coming from you, the most epithet-laden, swear-word spewing poster on the BBS, it's just laughable.

Okay. Yours is one interpretation. What I heard was Cheney had continually accused Leahy of being a "bad Catholic" in regard to some ultra right wing religious issue or the other. Leahy brought this up to Cheney while both were on the floor, and Cheney replied in kind.

As for H-K, she looked as if she was as much being badgered as she was trying to defend herself. Who knows? Maybe something was lost in the accent.

What I take from both incidents is that both incidents result from frustration. H-K is frustrated that she was misinterpreted, and Cheney is frustrated that he and the administration misinterpreted the importance of beginning a war that hasn't yet gone well.

Hmmm...you got that feeling too, huh? Next thing you know the German Shepards and fire trucks will be called out...

Patrick Leahy got his name, "leaky Leahy" for leaking classified information while on the Intelligence Committee. He resigned in disgrace. The remarks made by Cheney were not during session...Much different.

My knee only jerks when I am kicking some liberals ass with facts.

So, what did you think about Ted "swimmer" Kennedy flubbing the word "suburb" today?...Drunk?...Stupid?...Incompetent?...All of the above?...If that was Bush we wouldn't hear the end of it.
