How Fast Do You Drive?

Curious how many of us "save it for the track" and how many "do it on the street".

So the question is: when you're out driving for fun on public roads in your Porsche - not carting groceries, droning to work, or stuck in traffic - I mean a weekend fun drive on canyon twisties or country two-lanes or late-night freeways or however you get your fun - how many mph faster than the posted speed limit or posted speed advisory signs are you okay with driving?

Good question. Hard question, actually. To be honest, on par, lately I've been driving slower...

I think I'm saving it for the track. Or the next Mulholland Run. I get in at least a couple small bursts, but with L.A. traffic, it's never anything significant.

I tend to drive 10 to 15 mph over on back roads on my way to work. But on twistes, I prefer to stay with the posted speed limit or a few miles over as I really don't know the roads. If I know the road and I have driven it several times then 10-15 mph over is fine. However, I usually only drive extreme fast if I know that the roads are clear of pedestrians and other cars, basically a place with no side streets or schools etc.

It's funny this question came up because I was thinking about how fast over I usually drive and if I slow down will I improve my gas mileage.?

can't seem to find my category.... I usually go for "whatever the conditions allow" That includes traffic, which one of my friends is following me, road condition, tires, types of passengers.... I'm the "reasonable speeder" LOL

I once got a really big ticket: 75 in a 30. That is 15 *over* double the speed limit. That one stung. (Tip: it was on a bike.)

I was going to select "Over 30" but I don't take turns that fast.

If the road is semi-clear , it's pedal to the metal for the most part.. The 944 likes to stretch it's legs and get a good run..

If you get booked for doing more than 30km/h than the posted limit here in Melbourne, you lose your licence.

Let's just say that when I'm in built-up areas, I behave. On mountain roads, when it's deserted, I like to make some noise and break some rules.

I've been really minding my manners lately after getting warned by the local city cops, so I try to keep it within 5 mph of the posted limit. When I feel lucky, I can be stupid fast, if the corner has a suggested speed, I'm well over double. My favorite time to get stupid is right after a fresh rain.

Frequently the turns are marked at say 35mph on a road that is posted at 55. When takine that turn at 35, the 951 is loafing, so would maintaining the posted 55 on a cautionary 35mph curve qualify? There is also a turn that goes into the are I live where the posted limit is 35, but taking that right angle left turn at 35 in most cars could leave the driver as an ornament for the development sign. It's great fun in the 951 to not even hit the brakes to turn into the development even though my social director chastises me when I do with her in the car.

Usually keep to the speed limit in towns, 10-20 over on the highway. Everyone flies on the highway in CA. If you're not going 75, you're going to get run over.

Empty back roads are another story.

I run at cruising speed on the highway, usually 5 or 10 over what the rest of traffic is doing, fast enough for my Carrera suspension to get comfortable. Never had a ticket. On some Bay Area highways traffic will cruise at 90+ for 20 mile stretches, its great stuff.

I try to stay safe on backroads. Im extremely wary of bicyclists and others so I usually only drive those roads early in the mornings (7:00am). I also feel guiltly about ripping past peoples houses and driveways so Im usually under the speed limit until I get into the turn.

It used to be double the posted signs, then I changed the rear shocks out.

On the hwy, i still prefer to let someone else be rabbit and end up as the cop mangnet. Usually some kid in a ricer.

On the freeway in town, I'm usually around 5-10 over in the second-to-the-right lane - so 65 or so. On the freeway in open country, I might do 100 briefly but usually cruise at 75, in the middle of a pack.

On twisties, I'm usually 10-20 over - so a turn posted for 35 is actually 45-55. I'm pretty cautious on public roads - none of the above is "testing" the car at all.

Almost at 10 years since my last ticket, trying to make it there.

in residential areas, posted limit, especially in the 911.

freeway, depends, to and fro work in the low key civic 15 over on freeway, big 4 lane affair. the speed limit or what traffic is doing in the 911

backroads with homes and driveways, dont look at signs or speedo, do what feels safe, for them and in turn me.

way back roads, fast, still not checking signs, or speedo. about a 7/10. some squealing tires, some heavy braking, but not going so fast as to ever scare myself.

when i hit way backs i try to concentrate on being safe 1st, second is fast and smooth. i take pride in the fact that when my girl goes with me on a backroad cruz she can read her book. we can go miles without her even looking up. it was not always like that, early on when i was learning to drive the car fast she could tell. sudden braking, choppy turns and just plain not smooth.

10 miles over on streets usually. Ill go with the flow of traffic on highways...whether its 65 or 80..

Usually quite fast in the early morning on the highway. Very little traffic, and as you can see from my sig, I have a car that helps me get away with it
