another good administration choice
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=politicsNews&storyID=5944517
"I don't have the language skills. I, you know, my language skills were romance languages and stuff. We're looking for Arabists today. I don't have the cultural background probably," Goss is quoted in an interview transcript. "And I certainly don't have the technical skills, uh, as my children remind me every day: 'Dad you got to get better on your computer.' Uh, so, the things that you need to have, I don't have." |

I've got to admit that's pathetic.
About as bad as when the Clinton administration tried to push Frederico Pena' to be the Secretary of Energy. DOE people were educating Pena' on the difference between fission and fusion! Same thing with the ex-DOE Secretary under Clinton, Bill Richardson, now Governor of New Mexico.

Maybe if he gets a warning of imminent terror attack from his agents in the field, will it be too late...after he figured out how to open his e-mail

everybody (especially the conservatives) are hot on "national security". Wouldn't you want your "best and brightest" to head the CIA, and not some party flunkie politician? This guy seems like a backward yes-man. These are different times. If you don't understand the technology and cultures, you don't belong in a decision-making position. I see this problem all the time...people verging on luddite status who are in positions that require stratetic decisions. And since they don't understand the fundamental drivers and the implications, they make piss poor choices.
Then blame them on someone else. But that's what the political experience is good for... I will grant you that there are some smart people in the admin, even if I don't agree with all their decisions. But this one smells bad to me. |

My bet is Goss won't make it. He won't be confirmed. But then Tenent (sp?) was appointed and served two administrations...
![]() We'll see if anything was learned from Tenent's abhorrent CIA stewardship.

Maybe Quayle wasn't available.
But seriously, when "al Quaeda" followers living in the 3rd world have mastered using the Internet for encrypted message transfer, is there any excuse for technologically inept people to be in charge of defending against them? This isn't the time to reward a loyal 'old pol.' It's time to get the best person available.

Tech..
If one individual that happened to be "the best and the brightest" were appointed, now how would that make the rest of the crew look?
