Hi Mark (expatHK)
How are you doing? How well are you adjusting to LA culture? Maybe, you should request a change of your user name to expatLA.

wasup Jeff.
LA (not the city tho) is good so far. Great weather. Almost no surf tho. Disappointed that at this stage I can't afford another P-car. Bloody banks won't loan us anything for an older car and we desparately need to build a US credit history as they don't accept any of our credit history from HK or Oz which I find stupid. So we've got a new car (4Runner) and a 00 car (Corrolla) for now. I have to do both a written test and a practical test for them to let me loose on their roads. LOL! Seems to me there are lots of people who never got their DL! We're in a new apartment complex about 90mins from the city traveling NW. It's nice but expensive for a 2bed, 2.5 bath, no garden setup - US$2600/mnth. No wonder no-one gets any exercise here. Kids (and adults) are prohibited from any sports outside. My kids and I have already been 'told off' for - skateboarding - tennis - basketball - washing the car. None of these things are permitted within the complex. Geez! You can also guess what food outlet I can see from most rooms (pic to be uploaded later). I am surprised by the lack of older (pre 95) 911's on the road. Can't wait for the Ventura Porsche Festival in Sept. Hope to see lots of Pelicanheads there, and of course cool cars. I did ask Wayne (via email) if I could have my screen name changed to 'expat' but no response so far. You are going thru the stinking hot time (humidity too) in HK. Not pleasant right? Are you guys still getting together for drives? Are you running with/without the PCHK? If you get over this way, give me a call. You could setup on the couch (fold out double bed) if you needed too. If you see Bruce Morgan, Wayne Troedson from PCHK or Mr Wong from Carerra Motorsports say hi from me. If I can help you with any parts you can't get in HK let me know too. See what I can do. Cheers Mark

Pardon me, I don't mean to intrude in your private conversation. But even if you don't have a 911 at the moment your more than welcome to stop by and make everyones acquaintance this Sunday at Gelsons. I'm sure you could find an open seat if you wanted.

Kevin. I did actually think this.
My wife has to schedule a patient on Sunday morning so the kids would be alone if the time clashes. Will know later tonight. I'll be in my white 4Runner and maybe wearing my Pelican BBS shirt if I can find it somewhere! Don't worry, I'll make myself known if I make it. Thanks for the invite - might friendly of ya. Cheers Mark

Great to hear from you, Mark.
I am quite surprised that you and your kids are not allowed to play in the complex area; the management is probably afraid of potential lawsuits due to accidents on their property. Whatever happened to the family values of father and son/daughter bonding? I hope your kids are adapting well to their new environment. I, myself, had lived in different places when I was young (New Jersey and Taiwan) and it was quite challenging to fit in at first, especially living New Jersey. I guess being Chinese made matters worst. Don't get me started talking about the weather in HK!! I am on the verge of planning to petition a law stating that once the weather reaches 35* and 95*, or above, schools and businesses should close down!!!! Thanks for your invitation to stay at your place; if schedule permits, I definitely want to fly over and visit one the great Porsche-fests I've always saw pictures of posted in Pelican. But, probably not my wife's idea of a great holiday. To me, it will be paradise!! I jsut started collecting 1/43 scale diecasts of Porsche and there are a few models I can't locate in HK. Once you've got your family settled down, maybe, you can help me out. nice to hear from you, Good Luck. Jeff

Mark,
Did you ever make it up the coast to SB last month? I think I warned you about the surf. Wait until late September. We can get some really nice swells early fall through winter. Glad your adjusting to SoCal life.

Hey Dan. Yes went to SB but didnt get i contact with you because my wife's boss, who invited us there, pretty much took control of everything we did. Bit of a bummer because we like different things but oh well.....
I loved SB and if I could work there, man I'd be there in a heartbeat. Will wait for the surf to build and then come up and share some waves with ya. Cheers Mark
