North Sea, right? My Uncle was a Foreman on one of the North Sea rigs in the '70s/'80s and from all accounts it was a wild place to work. I think he worked for British Petroleum.

Looks like fun, though. Supposedly, those tugs, when locked up water-tight are "unsinkable".

I've been on Lake Huron for 10 hrs in 10ft seas. I sure would not want to be on those waters unless it was for only a short while.

I'd sooner get my thrills in one of these, on calms seas that is!

My old bass/inlet boat. All wood, tiller/fwd wheel.. Kurt Vonegaut's daughter did the drawing and another female artist did the colors. Oh yeah, it was back in my offshore shark'en days.

I love those boats! My father had one way back. It sunk at the dock out in Mastic Beach. (a hose let go) I always wanted to get another one. could never find one in decent condition.

I'd drift thru bridges working 3 poles with 3 live bunker. If the bridge was raised drivers would get out of their cars and watch till the last minute available to them. It was a ballet.

Ours was a 27' sea skiff hard top, I have pictures of it hanging in my office. My biggest memories of it ,was constanly running aground in the Great South Bay, and my father or uncle Fred having to jump over the side to push it off the sandbar.
My worst memory was pulling up to the marina with my father and seeing the anchor light and the antenna sticking out of the water. I dont know who was more heartbroken, me or him. I think i was about 10 or 11 at the time.
One day when I get this Offshore racing nonsense out of my system , I'd really like to find one to restore.

Shew --- I thought this was going to be another politically charged Swift Boat thread. Glad it isn't.

A few weeks ago, there was a special on Discovery Channel about the Alaskan crab season. Those guys sure work hard for their money in the high seas!

Unsinkable or not, the pitch and yaw movement on the bridge must be amazing. Vomit-city for most of us.

And Bill, I cannot agree more. Always a good thing to round first unless of course you call the wrong side of the downhill leg and round the leward mark in fifth. I hate that.

A 44' w/a tall tuna tower has a cockpit like a bull-whip in seas. It's 8-12hrs to the fishing grounds, 12hrs of fishing, then a following sea home. A few summers of that and I learned to vomit and $hit at the same time.
