Tech,

I do remember...my oldest sister was a student at UCB and filled her knucklehead brother in as best she could.
I don't handicap politics, so I don't know what the Republican party would have done had Kerry not focused on his military service in lieu of his Senate record. I would prefer that Kerry does: either ****, stand or stampede (my grandfather's favorite advice, granded without request often),but for chrissake, give me SOMETHING besides platitudes!
Thanks for being civil and all the best...

*****NEWSFLASH*******

Techweenie admits that Kerry is Satan!! In a recent posting, Techweenie stated that he "serves Satan" and that he also supports Kerry!! Kerry is therefore Satan. The full story at 11:00 . . .

Can I just check that what really gets you is not that he objected to the war, but that he uses both his participation in, and subsequent protest to, Vietnam as a key part of his campaign?

Or is it his lack of loyalty to his fellow soldiers which bothers you?

(I know you pretty much answered it, but I would like to be clear).

You see, as Moneyguy says, "The "True Believers" on the side of the camp doing the parsing will believe every word of what is written." You're looking like a "True Believer" with all this peppering.[/SIZE]
Why don't you bring up that some of the Vets in question made it up? (I've seen that somewhere too).

Kerry himself said that what he said in 1971 was somewhat hyperbolic.

Here it comes.... once again.... a link to Island's least favourite "fact" website... http://www.factcheck.org/article.aspx?docID=244

I gotta say it (hence the questioning tone above to Seahawk) - I wasn't anywhere near Vietnam - I'm 29 years old and everything I learned about it comes from Platoon, Full Metal Jacket, the Deerhunter, the tv show Tour of Duty, and the general osmosis that occurs with history over time.

I don't think I've ever really seen anything that suggests it was a good idea from day one, that it was a particularly moral war in the first place, or that the US forces always conducted themselves to the highest standards. You bombed, you napalmed, you deforested. It was a freakin' war.

I can't help but wonder when I see the comments "what about the hundreds of thousands who died at the hands of the communists afterwards", followed by "if we hadn't had our hands tied we would have won".

I can only assume that "not having your hands tied" means that you would have bombed the North Vietnamese into submission, killing... you guessed it... hundreds of thousands.

It is interesting watching intractables argue. And by interesting I mean boring.

Just listening to the Kerry Testimony on C-span. Is it me or does he sound just like Charles on MASH?
