Another school shooting...Maryland

I'm sure most have already heard, but thought a thread would be in order...

Shooter targeted female student, shot her (critical condition), another student hit.

Shooter engaged by law enforcement officer on site, shot and killed.

Nope... But no other countries have the "sacred" second amendment either...
But guns apparently are not the problem, or so I keep hearing, so I'll crawl back under my rock while I research where I should move to keep my kids safe...

I hear Switzerland is very safe. Probably because there is an assault rifle kept (by law) in nearly every home.

They also have a pretty good health care system with mental health care included.

Only the fool blames the tool for a mechanics bad work. Since these shooting are becoming ever more common across the nation, you have to ask yourself what is causing people to go off the deep end and commit mayhem????

In other words, WHAT STRESSES ARE THERE IN AMERICAN SOCIETY THAT ARE PUSHING THEM TO COMMIT MAYHEM?

If you don't come up with a causation no matter what you do, YOU WILL NOT STOP THE MAYHEM.

How many times does this need to be said before people get it?

As it stands the American people do not want to find the answer they would rather live in denial and suffer the consequences, and then whine about it.

I actually agree (shock) with you - the american society is effed up right now... I don't know when it started... The guns are here to stay, there's no $ for mental institutions or detection and hasn't been for decades, there is no solution that will come out in time to protect my kids... I feel like I'm living through the very early beginnings of the fall of Rome (the disintegrating infrastructure, our vulnerability to cyber attacks, the absolute madhouse that US politics are at the moment, the corruption - sorry "Lobbying", the race and police issues and rising inequalities in pay, the US backed wars everywhere, all the time, the refusal to improve healthcare)... It's capitalism gone haywire with profit > common sense. An interesting experiment for the history books, which I fear will fall apart shortly. No idea when exactly, but I hope I don't find out...

With no ammo.

DAD SOMEONE IS SHOOTING THE SCHOOL. Hang on, let me drive home from work and grab my gun at home. After that I just need to swing by the armory for some ammo. Just hang tight kiddo.

Parliament has approved a proposal to ban the long-standing Swiss tradition of keeping army ammunition at home.

With the exception of a few thousand of the 120,000 soldiers in Switzerland's militia army who keep their cartridges at home, all army ammunition will have to be stored in central arsenals. Army guns can still be kept at home.

This is not too far off actually. Many of societies ills mirror those of the Roman empire as the fabric unravelled. Why? A very good question but I think we have taken our eye off the ball.

The most notable change I see from when I was growing up is this: "The world owes me..."

Where the hell did that come from and how did it get so pervasive, from government, minority groups, nearly every millennial, the boardrooms, and wall street. It is a false belief that drives people to act out in uncivilized ways that defy reason. The world doesn't owe any of us jack squat. We create our own realities.

This times ten thousand!

All this talk of metal detectors and bullet proof glass (yes I heard that on the radio) do we really want to make our schools into prisons?

And yes I know several armed men chickened out in the Florida shooting, but that doesn't mean every person hired to protect our kids will turn and run.

We have gone from a culture of hard work and absolute truth to getting by with the minimum required and relative truth. Everyone is a winner.

It has been said over and over, it is a mental health issue, not a gun issue, but that is just a pert of it.

The big reason so many kids go on a shooting spree, is school taunting, bullying and social media attacks. THAT is the thing the kids in schools can put a stop to overnight, done and gone. Suicides, will go down as well.

Stop the merciless teasing of the kid that is different. Instead of calling the weird looking kid names, go sit next to them and make friends with them. And most important, when a kid is so messed up no one can be a friend, get them into a mental treatment that is appropriate.

Peter yes of course. I think the point of this thread may be "why is the person so willing to pull the trigger?".

Frightening to agree with Tabs, but I do. Until we are willing to focus on what is turning the screws on our society, ever-tightening the vise, then we will never get to the root cause. But that's not a conversation that many in our society, particularly those in the public eye, have the balls to lead.

Also, armed school resource officers are such a no-brainer at this point I can't believe we need to discuss it. We can put multiple cops on-duty at the shopping mall but can't put one in each high school? This also must be a state thing, because most of the high schools that I am aware of in KS already have armed resource officers, and have since I was in high school 20 years ago.
