CBS News is still claiming that the Bogus Docs are real

Say good by to your ratings CBS.

Here is Their BS.
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/09/08/60II/main641984.shtml

In response to controversy over this report and questions about the authenticity of documents in the story, CBS News has issued this statement:

"For the record, CBS News stands by the thoroughness and accuracy of the 60 Minutes report this Wednesday on President Bush's service in the Texas Air National Guard.

This report was not based solely on recovered documents, but rather on a preponderance of evidence, including documents that were provided by unimpeachable sources, interviews with former Texas National Guard officials and individuals who worked closely back in the early 1970s with Col. Jerry Killian and were well acquainted with his procedures, his character and his thinking.

In addition, the documents are backed up not only by independent handwriting and forensic document experts but by sources familiar with their content. Contrary to some rumors, no internal investigation is underway at CBS News nor is one planned. We have complete confidence in our reporting and will continue to pursue the story."

After reading everything, including the guy that said CBS tricked him into saying the docs were legit, I would say they have a 10% chance of being real. They're holding onto that 10% because this will be a HUGE blow to the main stream liberal media machine if true. They have no choice but to defend themselves. If they had just said "our bad, we shoulda verified" right away it maybe woulda slid, but not anymore. This is for all the marbles now.

They did a piece on this tonight on the national news stickign to their guns. Quoted one of the document analysts that was pointing them out as false a couple days ago as "...could have been made on an IBM Selectric...". I'm paraphrasing here, but the quote they aired tonight wasn't really much better. I'd love to see hear the WHOLE quote...

They don't know when to give it up.

Manufacturing news isn't exactly a new endeavor for CBS and 60 Minutes ....... remember the hachet job they did on Audi and it's supposed 'unintended acceleration' problem. They fabricated footage for that segment, nearly put Audi out of business and to this day CBS have not admitted they did anything wrong. Here's a good summary of that little piece of "investigative journalism":

http://www.audifans.com/archives/1998/07/msg02207.html

Or the full story here:

http://www.ukar.org/hewitt01.html

Or how about the exploding truck rims? Remember that one? They actually won a friggin' Emmy Award for that bogus segment!

Here's what happened: CBS claimed the most common type of tire rim used on heavy trucks can fly off, killing or maiming tire mechanics and other bystanders. Again CBS relied on film from the Insurance Institute, this time showing an exploding rim shredding two luckless dummies, an adult and a child. Such footage, said Mike Wallace, "shows graphically what can happen when a wheel rim explodes." Insurance Institute spokesman Ben Kelley (who had also appeared on the Jeep segment) explains that a truck tire is under enormous pressure. "And if that metal, for any reason, dislodges, it fires off like a shell out of a cannon."

Again, 60 Minutes did not see fit to tell viewers exactly why the metal happened to dislodge in the film clip. It turned out that, according to the Insurance Institute, the rims had been "modified" to get them to explode for the demonstration.

Well, actually, the rims' locking mechanism had been deliberately shaved off for the test. Under questioning in a later deposition, an Insurance Institute employee acknowledged that the testers had to go back and shave off more and more of the metal in stages before finally getting off enough of it--an estimated 70 percent-that the rims would explode.

There's other stories as well. Looks like this Bush memo will simply be added to the list ...... they'll probably get another Emmy too.

Other 60 Minutes segments that were rigged:

# Poison in Your Mouth
(23-Dec-1990 hosted by Morley Safer), described by Stephen Barrett, M.D. as "the most irresponsible report on a health topic ever broadcast on network television."

# The French Paradox
(17-Nov-1991 hosted by Morley Safer, with a follow-up on 05-Nov-1995), Morley Safer's recommendation of intoxication as a way of life is a wine-industry infommercial disguised as scientifically-based health advice. I discuss it in my letter to Morley Safer of 21-Apr-1999 whose link is in the heading of the present paragraph, and I elaborate in my letter to him of 05-Apr-2000.

# The Ugly Face of Freedom
(23-Oct-1994 hosted by Morley Safer), a Zionist contribution to stampeding the Jews of Ukraine to Israel masquerading as investigative reporting.

# The Connection
(01-Jun-1997 hosted by Steve Kroft), "A prize-winning British documentary broadcast on the CBS program 60 Minutes about drug running from Colombia was a fake [...]. Makers of The Connection paid actors to portray drug dealers, faked locations, and falsely claimed there was a new heroin route from Colombia to Britain [...]" (Canoe at www.canoe.ca/TelevisionShowsS/sixtyminutes.html)."

# Canada's Dark Secret
(20-Jul-1997 hosted by Mike Wallace), the vehicle disseminating the Rambam-Abella Fifty Confessions Hoax to over 30 million viewers.

# UKAR makes briefer reference to other instances of 60 Minutes brushing journalistic standards aside so as to manufacture an entertaining story in the cases of Joe Yandle and of Michael Horner.

Ahhhh ... that was Dateline NBC that rigged that story. NBC: another bastion of ethical journalists ...... I just don't see how anybody can take any of the netwroks seriously on any story after decades of sham stories like these. How in the world do they get away with it?

I just watched "The Running Man" on DVD.

Funny how life imitates art.
