JFK's Shiny New Gun .....

This is sooooo predictable ...... JFK is co-sponsoring legislation banning "semi-automatic shotguns that have a pistol grip.” Over the weekend, some union thugs gave Kerry a semi-automatic Remington 11/87 shotgun with a pistol grip. Under current law, even as a gift, Kerry would have needed to apply for and recieve a permit before taking possession of the firearm. It is unlikely he did that ...... oh I forgot, laws like that are for us - the slobbering masses - not royalty .....

Remington quickly disavowed any connection with the bribe .... er, gift: "Rest assured, Remington was neither aware of this presentation in advance nor in any way supportive of its intent to support Senator Kerry's candidacy. In fact, the company remains amused by ongoing photos of Senator Kerry shooting without either ear or eye protection while discharging a firearm."

Looks like Kerry's trying to play both sides of an issue again. And if he's elected, I'm wondering what to use instead of my Benelli M1 with a pistol grip to massacre ducks and geese ...... maybe spitballs

I heard Kerry joked about being sorry he could not take the shotgun to the debates. Imagine if GWB said that?

"I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me," Kerry told a cheering crowd as he held up the device. John Kerry

Somebody who doesn't know squat about guns wrote that one up.

The gun he was given did not have a pistol grip.

tech is right. Unless he got two of them, the one he received was a sporting clays/duck gun, no pistol grip. They replayed it on TV a few times. I was surprised he checked the chamber and didnt sweep the crowd with it. He's the first liberal politician Ive seen hold a weapon and look like he knew which end to point downrange.

The upper image is the gun Kerry was given.

The lower image is an AK-47. It has a pistol grip (and the extended-capacity clip that qualify it for the ban)

You can still buy an AK with a pistol grip and a detachable mag as long as it has a certain number of american made parts in it. You CANNOT put a collapsable stock, a bayonet lug, a removable flash suppressor, or a hungarian or yugoslav furniture kit on it without violating a few laws. However, you can weld a flash supressor on the gun permanantly. The ban is a very complicated and convoluted thing.

These gun laws are moronic. They remind me why I don't like the democrats either.

Per this quote from Drudge, it would appear that the gun did indeed meet Kerry's bill's definition of a "pistol grip." Looks to me like it is "functioning as a grip" in the photo!
He waves the gun that he wants regular folks to be prohibited from owning...just another flip-flop...

Was Dem presidential hopeful John Kerry seen this weekend waving a gun which would have been banned if legislation he co-sponsored became law?

Kerry co-sponsored S. 1431 last year (“The Assault Weapons Ban and Law Enforcement Protection Act of 2003) which would have banned a "semiautomatic shotgun that has a pistol grip.”

Opponents of the bill successfully argued how nearly all guns have "pistol grips," inluding millions of Browning Auto-5 shotguns produced since 1903.

Photos show Kerry's hand resting on the "pistol grip," as loosely defined in the bill. [Section SEC. 2; (H) (ii) and (b)(42): "The term 'pistol grip' means a grip, a thumbhole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip."]

Kerry was presented with the semiautomatic shotgun during a Labor Day stop in Racine, West Virginia.

"I thank you for the gift, but I can't take it to the debate with me," Kerry told a cheering crowd as he held up the device.

But Kerry's gun bill would have also banned any "gift" transaction!

[It is not clear if Kerry completed the required paperwork (Form 4473) before he claimed the gun.]

Maybe he could find a badly injured Vietnamese to shoot in the back and earn a silver star to throw over the White House fence when he fails to be elected.

not quite the same as saying he was sorry he couldn't take the gun to the debate.

And if you guys can't tell the difference between the "pistol" grip on the AK and the grip surface built into the stock on the shotgun, then should you really be playing with guns?

Come on kids...he's totin' iron. You guys should like that...maybe give him just a shred of credit.

GWB wants to be a dictator, so he doesn't actually have to do the shooting himself. It's all for the best, really, otherwise the taxpayers would be stuck with the bill for two prosthetic feet.

And yes, GWB did say he wanted to be a dictator:

Not here in New F'ing Jersey. The "assault" gun ban is due to expire this week.

For the Record: It's been reported that both Bush and Kerry are FOR a renewal.

A "monte carlo stock" is not a "pistol grip."

Gentlemen (and Techweenie), suspend your ideologies for one moment, please, and tell me, how the grip on the firearm is a meaningful indicator of the weapon's killing power, apart from other objective criteria such as the magazine capacity.

The answer is, it's not: this language was introduced into the bill to broaden its scope to cover "scary-looking" firearms.

Have a look at the M1 sometime, but for the magazine capacity you'd have no problem complying with the ban.

The Second Amendment is not an "optional" part of the Constitution. Try not to forget that as you sculpt Utopia.

Like John Kerry, I am a liberal who likes, and knows how to handle, firearms. You neocons look really silly pretending that all shotguns, all rifles, are banned under the 'pistol grip' regulation, because it suits your Kerry hatred. Both candidates favor renewal of the ban. G'head.....bash Kerry using any and all lies and deceits. Just be aware that you look silly to people who can view pictures and read.

I see it as exactly what he was saying. Please educate me as to how he is saying to a cheering crowd "Thanks for the gift, but I cant take it to the debate with me" Is not implying that he wished he could take it to the debate and threaten the president or shoot him. I know GWB would have to be running and have is back to Kerry in order for Kerry to feel good about shooting him but Please clear this up!
