When the Moderate Dems lost both in 2000 and 2002 the Liberal.....Kennedy wing of the Democratic Party took over...now they have their chanch in the sun...if they fail in 2004 then the door is open again for the Moderates lead by Hilliary in 2008.

This idea that the Dems are tanking the election to give Hillary a shot is nonsense. If that were the case, they would have nominated Dean. Dean v Bush would have ben comparable to the '27 Yankees v a little league team. No, people are being too smart by half if they think the Dems don't want the white house. It's thier only shot at holding any office of significance.

And another thing, who thinks Hillary is a good candidate? She's shrill and a boring speaker. Plus she's even more dissallusioned about her inevitability than Kerry.

Also, who gives a crap what the Democrats want? They have been irrelevant since 1994 when the GOP took over Congress. Clinton became the rubber stamp for Newt Gingrich et al. He was basically the Republican's ***** throughout the rest of his two terms. He would pull his pants up whenever a bill needed signing and then go back getting his hummers and being insignificant again.

If the GOP had run anyone other than the half-mummified Dole (who actually is pretty funny when he's not campaigning) they would have had the white house 4 years earlier.

No this thing will tighten up come the debates and CBS and the rest of the media shills will do thier best to keep things close. I believe that Kerry is just too poor a candidate to close the deal.

Okay, perhaps I misinterpreted. If so, then I apologize. But then perhaps I did not. I see references here to anal probes, etc. I know the tone of this forum has gotten better, and I am itching to become Clark Kent again, or perhaps humble, lovable shoeshine boy. But at the first indication of mindless "dems love to see American soldiers get killed" and other similar remarks I am going to conclude that facts and logic and respect are out the window and it's a free-for-all. And I can be fairly caustic in my remarks. So, it's up to us.

Now, as far as the original subject of this thread is concerned, I've heard of people who believe that men of wealth can compete for eight and nine and ten-figure opportunities......ethically. Anybody know where I can find one to chat with?

And finally, there mercifully are more than one kind of organization in this country. In a corporation, the owners are called "stockholders" and though we would like to think they expect management to behave ethically, we all know in reality that their expectation is that management maximize the value of a share of common stock. that's the name of the game and not doing it gets you fired. But with certain other organizations, governmetn for example, we call the owners "citizens" and we have an active hope that they will prefer the values of fairness and honesty. When I say "actively" do you suppose I mean listening to gubmint-bashing AM radio talks shows? You're right, I don't. So if Island is correct and gubmint cannot be trusted with money, and you want to talk to an owner, I see one each morning when I shave. And so do you. It's fun to blame gubmint as though your government is "them." But it's not.

Please, trying to compare government to the private sector is a joke. A low level manager at a company has his ass on the line everyday. Fail to perform and buhbye. A low level government manager has a lifetime job and no one cares if he cares. There is no incentive to do better than the last guy unless they have political aspirations(most do not) and need something on their resume.

Talk to your "shareholder in the mirror" all day long if you want to, he cant do jack for the most part. There is to my knowledege no way to weed out the vast majority of waste and/or change the blase attitude of most gubmint employees as it is rooted in human nature. Elected officials are different, but they are still incapable of altering the inherent flaws of government. The best they can do is limit the reach of government into our lives.

Walk into any "guaranteed job union factory" and watch the workers on the floor. Then go into a non-union factory and observe the same. You will notice a drastically higher level of energy at the non-union shop. This is fact and human nature. Government is the union shop to a factor of ten as they don't even have to worry about the "company" going belly-up. Government is waste, waste is government, you cannot change human nature. You tell us neat stories of how much government workers "care about what they are doing", well I call BS. People are people my man and those who choose government work generally do so for job security/benefits/pay, not some altruistic "I want to make the world a better place" crap you speak of. You do make me laugh sometimes though

Wanted to add, you always say something like "we care about what we do and do the absolute best we can wioth the limited resources we are given" or "we know and understand government and are passionate about making it work"

Well my question is WHY? What is sooo special about government employees that alows them to defy the laws of human nature and go above and beyond the call of duty when there is zero outside incentive to do so? Be realistic.
