Beatles, here too. Sorry, I know they were the most popular rock band in history and so on, but I just can't stand the songs. We'd have still had the British invasion - Rolling Stones et al. We just wouldn't have had the Monkees and all sorts of "concept" albums.

Geez, you people are ready to eliminate some badass classic rock groups, but never mentioned Barry Manilow? Air Supply? Ace of Bass?

The curious thing about this thread is the concept. Eliminating most of the bands mentioned would have had zero effect on the history of music because they had no influence, ie. Vanilla Ice, etc... Why eliminate them? Who cares? As for the more significant ones, all I can say is wow. You guys need to leave culture alone and go lube your lugnuts. | ||

O.K., I'm with you on the "Black 911" thing. And as far as Country: Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, and some Willie Nelson, and that's all I can handle. The rest is the same damn song.

Boy, I just read this thread for the first time and you guys are making me feel old! Dylan? Neal Diamond? THE BEATLES?!?! For Pete's sake, with all the crap that abounds in today's music industry, I don't understand how these names can even garner a thought, let alone a vote. Wow, I must be outta touch. For the record (no pun intended), cast my vote for Guns and Roses, or more accurately, Axle Rose.

The Dixie Chicks. I can't believe they haven't been mentioned yet. Single artist, Marilyn Manson.

ABBA, with a very close second tie to Yanni, Tesh and Kenneth G. WAIT. I take it back. Yanni clear winner.

I understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion, but eliminating Elvis and the Beatles? Elvis did so many things for rock and roll. I used to hate rap but some rap does have some musicianship to it and some original creativity. I can't stand any band that is put together from the start by some guy who is like, "We need a bad boy, a pretty boy, the silent one, and the "creative one'". They don't even write their own stuff and when they do it is terrible.

I liked the beatles before Paul died in '66. And add Bryan Adams to the list... "summer of '69" makes me want to bash my head against a wall.
