I don't think there's any legal grounds to this. Just an angry musician who doesn't want people to enjoy his music.

You know... When someone like, oh I don't know, Rosie O'Donnel, Bono, Madonna, Dixie chicks, etc. says something inccredibly stupid and people decide to stop supporting them (people stop buying or listneing to their garbage) they scream CENSORSHIP! HELP, HELP, I'm Being REPRESSED!

Now this guy doesn't want his music being heard by... bush supporters? HUH?

You don't know what you're talking about. You can't use copyrighted material for public performance or broadcast without the permission of the copyrighter. Ever see that FBI warning in front of every movie ever made in the recent past? Same deal.

The only people the Bush Campaign would have to pay are BMI or ASCAP depending on who licences the damn song.

Do you have any proof that they Don't pay those fees?

1. You have to join BMI and ASCAP and sign a license agreement for that to apply.

2. It is extremely bad form to use an artists material without asking them permission, FIRST especially since most of the license agreements referenced above are meant for broadcast only, not private events. I would be mucho pissed if someone use my music for something political, regardless of the bent without clearing it first. This is the stuff that lawsuits are made of, especially if there is revenue generating activity involved.

[edited for a typo only]

Do political campaigns have to get permission to play every song that they play, or do they just pay licensing fees to the larger bodies and wait for someone to ask them to stop playing one of the songs?

Well, on the face of it, in the absence of a license for public use, the campaign should cease and desist from using the song.

There are plenty of performers who would be happy to have their music played all over the country by the campaign.

Hall can take his place alongside the Dixie Chicks and Springsteen. And Cher, for that matter.

Aside from the legal crap...

Don't you think its amusing that if we stop listening or buying their crap they yell and scream about being censored, but if we do listen to their crap, they don't want us to?

no deference between the song and your car. do you let peolpe drive it without permission? i'll be so relieved when the election is over and the dust settles. the division of the citizens it has caused is truely frightening. it will be an unpleasant 4 years, regardless of who is elected.

Give the guy a break. He owns a 944, so he clearly is mildly retarded. Type slower, and maybe he'll figure it out after ten more posts.

You might get a lot of takers for a piece of that action!

Bush will get 300 electoral votes.

It's very nice to know that our law-makers and politicians at the top choose not to follow their own copyright laws, esp. those that occupy the white house, laws that THEY put on the books.
It's the holier than thou attitude, you have to follow these laws but they dont apply to us because we're special.
there's a revolution coming in this country in about 10 years, the people will rise up....

Hey Lynn,
Didn't you get busted a while back for copyright infringement on your hats?
