New fastest car
Muscle Mustangs is currently testing a Ford GT. It covered the 1/4 mile in 10.98 on the first pass. The previous record for a production car was a Ferrari Enzo al 11.07. More punch at a fraction of the price.

Did "Muscle Mustangs" test the Enzo, too?

I rather doubt it. Why, do you think they would do a better job?

Everyone else got mid-high 11s. It's comparatively easy to tweak a forced-induction car. The ancestral GT40 was conceived as a Ferrari beater. A mag called Muscle Mustangs might be just a bit biased in favor of a Ford product, and might try very hard to make a story of the Ford "beating" a modern Ferrari.
Not to take anything away from the GT, though. EVO had a very nice writeup that involved curves and stuff. They ranked the GT ahead of the Ferrari 360 and the Lambo Gallardo. Of course, now Ferrari has the 430, but it was nice to see the GT on top for a few months. |

... and the fact that Muscle Mag may have drivers that actually know how to launch a car properly............
A sub-11 run is into some serious territory....

Automobile Magazine was at VIR not too long ago. They appeared to be comparing the Carrera GT, Ford GT, Gallardo and another car (my friends relayed this info to me). Should be interesting to see what they come up with.
Friends said the Porsche was head and shoulder above the rest, but they were very impressed with the Ford. One races Formula Mazda and is more of a Lambo nut. The other races Vintage Winston Cup and Ferrari. Both said the Carrera GT was the hottest car they had ever seen ro heard.

Too bad the real world price of the Ford GT isn't really a fraction of the cost of the Enzo. I just saw one at the Seattle Auto Show. It lists at somewhere around $140k or so, the one they had was being auctioned by the dealer. The current bid was allegedly over $350k, although I can't verify that. Jay Leno commented awhile ago in Popular Mechanics that every Southern California Ford dealer that was going to get one had called him, offering him first shot at it. He told one of them "geez, I only want one; that price is for three".

The pricing bugs me, too. Ford could easily have made the price $60k, built 10x as many of them, and made more money. The $60k Ford GT would kick the Corvette's ass and send overpriced, over luxo Porsche back to the drawing board. But no, they'd rather sell a small quantity of cars to celebs and the outrageously wealthy. Do they think that gives them some sort of credibility? Certainly not with anyone who might buy any of their other POS cars.

10.98 compared to 11.07
= more muscle? DOH! What about temperature , track ,driver. how many runs? Is this all the performance stats you have - what about top speed, cornering ability, maximum G force, braking, acceleration through the gears, 0-60, 0-100, 0-150, 0-200mph times? Incomplete facts make it look a bit biased to me.

I'd give Muscle Mustangs the benefit of the doubt here, those guys are serious drag junkies and would know how to launch the GT for best ET. It's possible that they might even run the Enzo into the 10's. Given a choice I'd take the Ford GT hands down, for little money you could make a heck of a lot more HP than it produces stock. 500HP is mild for a forced induction mod motor, 700-800 is very doable while still being streetable.

Did I once hear they were losing money on each car? Any experts have thoughts on this?

Look guys this was an editor at the wheel & I understand that with some BFG drag radials they went 10.80s but the 10.98 was a legit, stone stock, FIRST PASS. PS The Ford GT also set some records at tthe Nurbergring.

I saw a GT40 at the Miami Auto Show last year and was not impressed. It seemed to have that cheap quality that the Corvette does. Interior stying looked like it was out of an 80's Camaro. Just my 2 cent.
