Army Messup...Pat Tillman dead by Friendly Fire
Just read the news on AOL at 2:55 AM this morning...a report was finally released that Tillman was killed by friendly fire after their Humvee broke down. They moved though a canyon, not knowing the other half of his squad, who was supposed to take a different route, reversed and moved through the canyon as well. No radio comm was done, and Tillman and his squad came under fire from Taliban fighters.
The rest of his squad that reversed their route, thought that the enemy fire was coming from tillmans position, unknown that it was Americans, and poured round after round into them. The Afgan Soldier with them died first, despite attempts to shouting ceasefire. Tillman threw a smoke grenade, trying to get them to stop firing, but only suceeded in having the second squads humvee move to a different position. They waved their hands, trying to get them to stop firing, only drawing more fire. After getting hit by rifles, Tillman sucumbed to the machine gun. The driver of the second squads humvee, as he drove over the hill and saw Tillman down below, yelled up to the gunner that there were friendlies down there. Yelling Cease Fire several times, his words fell on deaf ears as the MG on top rained lead on them.

Friendly fire, what a misnomer. Tragic.

Some irony:
(Keith Olbermann) http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6210240/ And lastly, while we’re in this overlap among politics, sports, the rules, and the credibility of authority - a quick thought about the Pittsburgh Steelers’ football quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger. The National Football League has threatened him with a fine of $5,000 if he again adorns his shoes, or any other part of his uniform, with the hand-written message “40.” The number is an homage to the late Arizona Cardinals’ player Pat Tillman, who quit football to serve his country as an Army Ranger, and was killed by friendly fire in Afghanistan last April. For reasons of marketing, and to curb players from writing anything on their uniforms (whether “Hi Mom,” “Vote Bush,” or “Coca-Cola”), the NFL doesn’t want Roethlisberger paying public tribute to Tillman. But, the league is happy to sell you a Pat Tillman replica jersey, complete with that big number 40, for $64.99.

The Tilman family, according to the LA Times, accuses the military of a coverup as to the real events and who was responsible for the call. Latest news has it that there were no Taliban at all; just two platoons divided and non-communicative. Tilman's brother was in the same platoon; not sure which half though.

yup, its all too sad. unfortuneately, as far back as ww2, the U.S have a great capacity, to bomb the living crap, out of themselves, and their coalition friends, despite numerous newsreel of fantastic weaponry used by the military. dont get me wrong, britain messes up too!!
i always chuckle when i think back to my days in the royal navy, as a yeoman{radio op}. how utterly hopeless, and useless nato was. you had to store, and keep crypto for EVERY navy in nato, including 2 types for the U.S, because in britain, there was no freedom of info act, and so sensitive messages were sent #1, so that info could not be obtained in the U.S , and then appear on brit tv next day! however, it was generally aknowledged that the russians{and therefore just about everyone else!} had a copy of all nato crypto, thus making it useless for all but the most routine message-handling! i never saw action, and i'm glad, because by the time a message was composed, checked, and then finally sent, by the time you received a reply, you may well have been sunk!! last note to technology! our ship had recently been converted to sat-nav comms, and navigation. taking part in what still has been the biggest nato exercise ever,{146 ships} we were clearing a channel, for 2 U.S carriers, when we spotted what appeared to be spanish fishing boats following us! turns out our sat-nav was pretty gash, and we were out of position by a couple miles, and our gear had got tangled up with the fishing boats, and we were towing them all behind us!! funny how you can learn profanity, in an other language! really made for an interesting run ashore in gibraltar. technology is great, but i'm afraid that sometimes man has not yet caught up to it! bob.

Now we see just how f*cking dirty this war was. You have Tillmans brother and Jessica Lynch calling a spade a spade, and showing the utter lies the American public has been told. And to think of the audacity it took.....the arrogance.....to have right wing A55HOLES accusing those that questioned these stories of a lack of patriotism. ![]() Funny, I have not heard to many apologies from that camp.... http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/04/24/tillman.hearing/index.html

Whomever lied about this should certainly be held accountable. But I'm trying to figure of how holding Tillman up as a hero and rallying the country around his spirit and sacrifice would have/should have changed based on the origin of the bullet.

Yep. At the same time, we're finding out more about how there was "less" to the rescue of Jessica Lynch (the Iraq war's first American POW) than what we were led to believe.

I assume you refer to the nine mentioned here. "The Defense Department said last month that nine military officers, including four generals, would face "corrective action" in connection with Tillman's death." Which leads me to believe you forgot what you were trying to prove. So again I ask, can you provide an example of anyone trying to "undermine her and the Tillmans"?
