Pelican: please can FedEx ground
Dear Pelican,
Please do not use Fedex ground. FEDEX GROUND SUCKS! Please use UPS instead. 1) UPS takes one day to deliver within CA. FedEx ground takes two. 2) FedEx tracking system is crippled for ground deliveries and does not accurately report package status. 3) FexEx ground does not permit package pickup at station upon missed delivery. I waited around today for 8 hours for a delivery because the FedEx tracking system said that it had not been delivered. I called tonight, and the agent told me that the system is not updated accurately for ground packages, and that the delivery attempt had been made this morning. I asked if I could pick the package up at the station, they said no. Ground delivery does not permit that. UPS service does not have these problems. Clearly the poor FedEx ground service is intentional, since they don't want to undermine their one day service. There is no reason to use FedEx ground when UPS provides so much better service, at least within CA. A dissatisfied Pelican customer. -Juan

I'm a dissatisfied Pelican customer because Pelican chose to ship it FedEx ground rather than UPS ground. The message was intended for PP, to discourage them from using FedEx ground service for CA -- better service for their customers.
BTW, I really like FedEx one day service. It's the ground service that sucks. -Juan

Why not try calling in your order by phone? I know there's the convenience of shopping online, but your orders don't get filled until staff shows up anyway, so just call 'em up and ask about other shipping options. Personally I wish there was a "pick up" available since I'm about 30 minutes away from their office in El Segundo and would rather just go there than pay the shipping (plus it'd be kind of cool to meet some other Porsche people. . .) but no luck thus far.

Porsche-o-phile,
Have you ever tried to call in an order to Pelican by phone? I have not had good experience. There was the time that I called in, and was on hold for 20 minutes listening to a message saying that someone would be with me shortly. Finally someone picked up. They said that everyone had gone home, and that I should call back the next day. Mind you this was 30 minutes before closing time. Wayne wrote me back saying that was going to be fixed. But still, I have not had very good experience calling in orders since then. PP has lost some of my business because of the attitude of the people that answer the phones. In any event, I appreciate the community and business that PP has created here, even if there phone service is bad, and that is why I bothered to write my feedback about FedEx ground. I did a search and found others that had similar feedback. -Juan

Too big to fail

Here's a FedEx Story:
I shipped something using a pre-printed paid label from Sacramento to Delaware. First off, it took a whole day to get into the system. then it was reported to be in PA, then shown rejected back in Sacramento, then it went back east again. It took over a week to get there; why it crossed the country twice I dunno.

Not that I work at Pelican anymore, but if you want them to use only UPS, then just call Travis at ext 281 and ask him to update your profile, or email him at travis@pelicanparts.com
That adjustments been made in regards to both carriers hundreds of times since we started using both.

Jason,
Thanks for your suggestion. I didn't know that PP kept a profile that would enable me to specify a default carrier. I'll give PP a call on Monday to see if they can set that up. Thanks! -Juan

I wanted to buy a tool KD 850.
I thought gee Pelicancan supply that. I know that it would be Drop shipped . I went on to the site and odered one. The cost was $52.80 Here is the Shipping. Deliveries in the USA FedEx or UPS Ground Delivery (USA 48-States) $10.50 The Actual cost from the UPS Site is $3.96 So I would pay $6.54 for the box FedEx or UPS 3-Day Delivery (USA 48-States) $9.50 <<<-----WTF 3 day is One dollar cheaper FedEx or UPS 2-Day Air (USA 50-States) $9.50 <<<<---WTF 2 day is One dollar cheaper FedEx or UPS Next Day Air (USA 50-States) $24.50 USPS Priority Mail (USA 50-States) $7.95 <<--Last time I sent Priority last week The box was free. And the post man picks up. The cost to Ship Priority is $3.90 So my cost would be Tool $52.50 Shipping $10.50 Tax $ 5.31 Total $68.31 Wow I said that too much so I went to Foogle and found the same KD 850 for $41.35 and even though the place is in New York only $6.50 for shipping UPS Ground. So $47.85 or $68.31 I will let you figure out where I purchased the tool. Last edited by SteveStromberg; 01-04-2005 at 09:19 AM.. |

For those of you that would prefer UPS, I thought I'd share the following tip from Travis at PP. He said that the best way to specify a shipper on a web order is to write in the comments section of the order page "PLEASE SHIP UPS."
