Beautiful,beautiful technology.
My loving bride got me an iPod for Christmas. I was all set to hardwire an Aux input to my car stereo when I thought I'd give the iTrip a shot.
In a word, it's great. I doubt you will sell many hard-core afficionados on the transmission quality, but to my ear it's fantastic! My motor will produce more sound distortion than this little iTrip will. No hookup, no download. true plug-n-play. Now about the iPod. WOW! 10,000 songs in your shirt pocket with the most intuitive software I've seen. The clickwheel is elegant, simple and functional. Skip, pause, stop and volume adjustments are easily made without looking. How are they going to sell radio advertising in 10 years when everyone has an mp3 player in the car? Anyway, if you have been on the fence about the iPod or the iTrip, I think you'll be impressed. ![]()

I got an iPod for xmas, also.
It really is pretty amazing. I was just thinking of music storage in our (relatively) short lifetimes. 10 songs on a big vinyl disk, then the same amount on an 8-Track, then on a cassette, then maybe 50 max on a CD. All fairly small steps. Then BAM 10,000 songs on this tiny thing. Just need to figure out how to use 2 computers and 1 iPod. Like if you have a computer at work and one at home. Can't download from 2 computers to 1 ipod? |

We're a 3 iPod family now. My wife and son bought me one for my birthday last year, my son bought himself one this year with his birthday money and we just gave my wife one for Christmas. I agree that the iPod is a fantastic gadget. I have my entire music collection in it plus several audiobooks, all in a cool little package no thicker than my wallet. Plus the sound is just incredible. My Caravan's stereo system lacks bass but since I have my iPod set to R&B, I have all the bass I want. Next to my cell phone, it's the coolest and most useful gadget I have.

I don't think manual synch will work. When you plug the pod into a second computer, it will automatically erase everything on the pod that is from the first computer, I've found, no matter what the settings.
What are the free programs, and how do they work? Thanks! |

This is just one of many; http://www.copypod.net/ Check out www.iPodlounge.com You do not need to cut CDs or lose your iPod playlist. There are even great programs that will re-label all your songs correctly (Artist, title, album, etc) if the songs were labeled incorrectly when downloaded. These programs also link your iTunes library to Amazon.com and automatically download all the album cover art that matches your music library. While you listen with iTunes, the album cover will be displayed!

iPods are great. I can't tell you how many people asked me for advice before Christmas. I guess it was the 'gift of the year.'
My stock portfolio thanks you all.

By the way, people are doing wacky things with iPods: here's a project to make it into a universal remote:

Why would you get an I-pod when you can get a 20GB MPEG movie viewer/MP3 audio player for less money?

An Ipod is not a Porsche.

The iPod is the only thing out there that makes navigating 20GB+ of media feasible.

I bought a IPOD for my wife for Christmas. And she bought one for me so one of them has to go back.
These things are great, don't know how long we lived without one. I "ripped" my first CD Christmas morning. Actually typed in all of the song names/artist/album for two CDs. Then I come to find out that the software does this for you by checking a database online. Very cool. I do find it interesting that the battery was not designed to be replaced by consumers. What happens when the battery goes kaput? I am supposed to buy another $300 IPOD? I believe Apple (and other vendors) offer to replace your battery for $75-100. I don't trust myself enough to crack open the case and do it myself.

I have XM in my car. But it will be nice to take the ipod on the boat in the summer...no skips in the big waves.
