Vitamins

Since we are talking about health with smoking etc. Do you guys take vitamins? If so which ones and why? Do you notice any differences in your life? I keep seeing articles everywhere that people need vitamins for optimal health, however they never say which ones or what you shouldn't take or take too much of.

I've taken vitamins for most of my life, so I can't say I feel any different as a result. Maybe I overdo it, but my daily take is: multiple with minerals, vitamin E, 81 mg aspirin, and fish oil (cholesterol level of 320). I also take 6mg of melatonin before bed. It seems to make me sleep better.

Weird dietary requirements notwithstanding, a good multivitamin like Source of life or equivalent from a health food store definitely makes a difference. When I mean multivitamin I mean something that has like 5-10X RDA in certain elements. Forget about drug store brands like Centrex, not enough to keep a hamster going. I seem to feel stronger and more focused. Slept better and generally more energetic during the day.

It's not a hard case to prove that with the modern diet (junk food, lopsided food groups, etc) that the body constantly struggling for the proper nutrients. Even if you eat properly it's a challenge to get all the nutrients you need due to factors like soil depletion - this will help you along. Try some for a week and see how you feel. Start with this, and then get add - on's as you need it. If you're pretty healthy extras above this probably aren't needed. Also easy on the iron - can cause illness if overdone.

Add protein supplements and some raw veggies and it's a pretty decent package for meal replacement, -esp. if you're dieting and restricting calories.

You'll get cool neon pee as an added bonus too

A multivitamin tablet every day made a huge difference to me. Approaching 40 it seemed as though every 3-4 months i would get a cold, flu or something else. Now since 1 tablet a day for 2 years and I have not been sick once. I highly recommend a good quality multivitamin daily.

I take GNC Mega mens multivitamins. Along with a good diet, protein shakes and a workout regimen I feel great. I slipped for a good part of last year and really went downhill fast. I've only been back at it for about a week and already I'm sleeping more soundly, have more energy and in general just feel better. And yes vitamins are great at warding of illness.

Read the definition for vitamins. Unless you are suffering a specific disorder that the vitamin solves, I would not take them. Eat good food which contain the vitamins you need.

I agree, I take 2 GNC Mega mens vitamins a day, 1 with breakfast and 1 with dinner, it really helps me with warding off colds. But unless you take care of your body otherwise, it is not going to make that big of a differnce, eat heathly and exercise, it really helps you sleep better, feel better, and DOES improve you SEX LIFE! At least it does for me!

My brother lives in la la land. The LA Sports Club has valet parking and caters to million dollar athletes. It's widely known cross country and is probably the most expensive membership in the whole US. It has a bunch of on-sight sport Docs, etc. He comes up with these vitamins a few yrs ago that were being used by many of them. He also comes up with this nutritional drink that was being used. He flies to Utah to check out the vitamin factory and eyeball the scene. The vitamins cost about double the routine cost, no problem. It turns out that the processing called "kelation" sic is related to absorbtion in the body, costs a little more to manf, and the 5pill packet replaces about 25pills, as told to him by pharmacists and physicians he parties with in Marina Del Rey. He inquires about the nutritional drink co and finds out who owns it. Brother and co owner are now friends. In la la land party pussy is commonly a binding force among men.

need I say what vitamins and nutritional drink I've been doing for over 7yrs. If it's good enough for pro athlete Docs, it's good enough for me.

LOL Ron...great story.

I've been taking one of the Kirkland or Centrum multivitamins every day for 20 years or so. I'd say my health is average. I still get 2-3 colds a year. But I'm not expecting a vitamin alone to overcome being around sniffly kids, drafty work environments, etc.

Whenever I stay over at Ron's I get the vitamin pack and protein sludge (er... shake) the next am, and it really does help recovery.

As a semi-professional drinker, I will attest to the necessity and efficacy of taking vitamins ... before you go to sleep ideally, and again once your day is going.

I think a multivitamin (and multimineral every day is a good idea, along with specific other nutritional supplements that you may want/need either on a persistent or ad hoc basis.

Then again, I work for the largest manufacturer of vitamins and nutritional supplements in the world, so I see/live this every day.

FWIW, "store" brands are typically what we call "private label" product where we use the same or very similar formulations as we do for "premium" brands and sell this custom product directly, in large quantities, to the retailers using their labels/trademarks/trade dress etc.

Take a multi-vitamin and drink a Rockstar, Redbull or other energy drink and you can almost get to orange territory.

I generally take vitamins that come in a whole foods base, preferably with ginseng. The ones that have enzymes, antioxidants, etc. can't hurt.
