Blackwell seeks illegal campaign funds.

Ohio Letter Seeks Illegal Contributions
Saturday January 08, 2005 3:49pm

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The state's chief elections officer, accused of mishandling the presidential vote in Ohio, sent a fund-raising letter for his own 2006 gubernatorial campaign that was accompanied by a request for illegal contributions.

A pledge card with the letter from Secretary of State Kenneth Blackwell, a Republican who co-chaired the Bush-Cheney election campaign in Ohio, said "corporate & personal checks are welcome."

Corporate donations are illegal in Ohio.

His spokesman, Carlo LoParo, said Saturday that any corporate donations would be returned.

A group of voters citing fraud has challenged Bush's 118,500-vote win in Ohio with the state Supreme Court, citing irregularities including long lines, a shortage of voting machines in minority precincts and problems with computer equipment.

Blackwell has maintained that he is permitted to campaign for Bush and that Ohio's election system has checks and balances to ensure fair elections.

Yes, that is massive corruption lol, thinking you can accept business donations only to find out you can't and return them. The horror!

Did Hillary think it was OK to lie to the federal government only to find out later it wasn't?

I'm not saying there isn't corruption on both sides, but you picked a piss poor example.

Ohio law says you CANNOT accept business donations. Who would better know that than the state's chief elections officer? How could he not know? It's his JOB.

And I'm pretty sure that hillary knew it was wrong, wrong is wrong is wrong, no matter what party she or Blackwell belong to.... but it's just business as usual for all these politicians, democrats and republicans.

Stupid how we fight anymore to defend our "own" in wrongdoing.

I didn't defend, you only assumed I did. What he did has two likely causes. Either he really didn't know and it was an honest mistake. Or, he is incredibly stupid and corrupt for thinking he would be able to pull it off. Which do you think is more likely? I know nothing of this man and would assume the same regardless of party affiation.

lest we forget that the allegations are from nutcases who believe that Bush, Cheney, et al. manipulated the election with computers and subterfuge based on the outcome of the election having been different than the initial exit polls

as Foxworthy used to say (I think it was him) "here's your sign"

Cool Chick, you're asking the illogical right to be logical.

If they were, they'd be concerned about record deficit spending by their 'conservative heroes.' But they're not.

Their righty media tells them everything a conservative does is just okay, and they go along.

If there had been a Democrat in charge of voting and precincts had 9-hour waits for voters, they'd be screaming.

The rest of the story.........

The accusations of mis-handing the election came from Jesse Jackson (Lots of credibility there) and were never proven in any way. It was just whining because the result didn't go the way he had wished and that Mr. Blackwell chose not to make his donation to the Rainbow Collation this year. Because he refused the shakedown from Jesse, this all came about. Pretty much a non-story in these parts. Went away real quick. Can I say a tier 2 or tier 3 level story ??? We don't even discuss it here. Election went rather well actually in our eyes.
