What kind of tools do they have outisde the US?
OK so while I'm pondering the thought that I'm going to have to do the valve adjustment over (don't ask), I was thinking about tools.
I have a 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" drive ratchet. I have all manner of extensions: 1/2", 3", 6", 12" and the new one I haven't used yet: 18" (for CV bolts ![]() So what is the standard outside the US? Do you guys have 3/8" drive or is it some metric thing? In Australia, is it still righty tighty lefty loosy?

1/4". 3/8", 1/2", 3/4" drive sizes seem pretty universal...BTW, if you're looking for a 4" long, 3/8" drive extension? The snap-on truck is the only place I ever found one.. In Australia? ARRRGH! You see, I have a cousin who lives there...

Buy them, sell them

Our toilets flush (all the Le BigMacs) the otherway, too.
![]() We have a superb new uber-metric range of tools, based on a unit of measurement known as a "chromon". You see, 1 inch is equal to 45.55 chromons in length, so if you need a 3/8" drive, then you should look for a 17.08 cr fitting... but (infuriatingly) they're made in random incremental sizes from -0.12 all the way to 550 or so.

Mostly stone tools, although this new-fangled copper material has recently arrived.
Its all the same - in NZ, we have the European and US brands, plus all the generic asian stuff. Actually, we mostly have the generic asian stuff.

Bob, I think this was a legitimate question out of curiousity.

Hey - don't get me wrong. I thought it was legit too. Just be thankful that (for once) the 1/4", 3/8", etc thing IS a semi-global standard.
Imagine the cost of buying tools for the Porsche if you not only needed metric sockets, but some sort of fancy metric ratchet too.

I can recall a small Snapon torque wrench which was 9/32 on the square
Had to use a 3/8 adapter which was not readily available. I dont know why they did that ,as I never saw a socket or extension in that size? [53 years in aviation] |

They use the 1/4 (6.3mm), 3/8 (9.5mm) 1/2 (12.7mm) 3/4 (19mm) and 1 inch (25.4mm)
the 1/8 inch socket wrench is still available, but difficult to find. A US company (I'm pretty sure it is snap-on) holds the patent for all socket wrenches. Any other socket wrench made has to pay licensing fees - thus all socket wrenches are that size. AFJuvat
