CNN reveals new Shelby Mustang...

From the article: The all new, 450-horsepower, six speed Ford Shelby Cobra GT500 is expected to cost slightly more than the current SVT Cobra Mustang, which has a list price of around $35,000.

Sounds like a great deal, actually.

It does sound like a great deal; which will have what effect on the prices of our toys?

Initially I loved the Mustang design but after seeing a few the exterior appears to be very cheaply executed in black plastic. Perhaps a golden opportunity for an aftermarket billet trim business.

That said 450 hp does raise the perfomance bar quite a bit.

I have always loved the older mustangs but that is just plain sweet. Finally, a Corvette competitor that will be in the same price range.

I'm pretty excited about the car, but then again I'm a Ford employee, so I'm biased. I'm hoping the car will be well-executed and get the company some good publicity.

The rear quarter panel windows need louvers or covers.. like the old fastbacks... then the design would be perfect....

I like the idea of going back to incorporating some of the retro 60's design elements, but overall the car still looks like a souped up Probe. I can't understand why American manufacturers in my opinion just can't seem to compete with the best that the Europeans or even the Japanese have to offer. I think Ford had it right in the 50's and 60's, heck if they just reissued an updated version of the original mustang fastback, that would be something.

This is the first American car design in a long time I've found interesting, at least eye-catching. Has anybody driven one?

A friend who posts here occasionally got one of the first GTs and loves it, last I heard. He also has a lightweight 911 dedicated track car that he is very fast in, so the thumbs-up was significant.

Looks better than the Saleen. The Saleen has too much of the bolt-on/glue-on body kit look for my tastes. Price is about the same.

I like the new Mustang a lot. It does look a little thick around the middle, which is like me I guess, but anyway I'd black out the rockers.

But for $35K, I'd rather have a coupe '65/66 and Shelby it myself. You could open the hood and actually see the engine . . . and no more smog tests (a sore subject with me lately).

My old '65 was one of the funnest cars I ever had.

I think it was Car and Driver who tested a "broken in" new V8 Mustang as 0-60 in 4.9 seconds. And all for - what - a $25,000 car?

I dont like the new Mustang body style. Too bulky, too square and too ugly...not sleek at all.
