Have a date tonight, need ideas
OK, first date, met online, cute, successful, smart, 33, me 37.
Not much going on in Boston tonight (if there really ever is) and I don't want to just do the dinner thing, get coffee, etc. Some girls like being taken to NY, but not enough time, so that's out. Any out-of-the-box ideas out there? |
out of the box?
|
Get in the box...
|
Is there anything in her online profile or in talking to her that would reveal her likes/dis-likes? This may give you some ideas.
I would not go overboard or over think the first meeting. Once in person either party may decide that no 'chemistry' is in the air. If you are planning a long evening with dininer it may turn into an eternity !! Leave your self an 'out' if things do not go well. |
All I can say is "There's something about mary"
Don't take a loaded gun. :) |
skinny dipping in the Charles...
|
Hope it works out as well as your last online date.

Alcohol... lots of alcohol.
|
the Charles is frozen, so that's out.
I was thinking we could put a kill switch in the track car together, but not sure on that one. Not much in the profile. Typically I like to go to the Children's Museum for tons of fun (if they don't like the CM, they are out) but it's closed. Chemistry best happens when you are active, doing something. Rarely does it over dinner, although there was that one girl... |

At least she won't have a beard and be 6'4"! |
you cant rule out dinner! you just gotta find a fun dinner. i dont mean chuckEcheese or anything like that, and no knights jousting each other. i think dinner is ok, i mean the girl has to eat. and you can talk and learn over food. if it were san fran, i could help. but you are wayyyy over there. good luck! dont talk about tabs.

I wouldn't commit to anything lasting more than an hour until all that is verified! Depending on the actual attributes, activities could range from a quick dinner and good-bye at Taco Bell to something a bit more engaging. |
Ice skating, miniature golf, batting cages etc.... Something where there's people around. You get see each other interact with strangers. That can tell a lot about an person.
You know, whether or not they are "shallow", IYKWIM. |
In the past I'd usually do a lunch for a first meet. You both know it'll be over in an hour or two. Then there's no excuse making to get out of there.

Dinner and a trip to the mall..Gals love to shop!!
Sows your "sensitive" side and provides insight into her tastes. |
Richard is (of course) right.
I don't think it really matters, as long as it is conducive to the consumption of alcohol, right off the bat, as quickly as possible. Pre-pre-drinks before the pre-drinks. |

Take her to a strip club.

Ethnic food. Something she has never had before. See if she has an open mind and sense of humor...
|
What about a nice picnic in the park? Shoot joggers (we all need target practice) and then retire for a leisurely evening installing the kill switch??? That COULD be a wonderful evening!!!
Sorry, first dates usually end up at dinner and some fun event. What about a picnic and a nice skating rink or something else unusual. Set yourself apart. Nice girl, go to a kart track, girly girl, go to the mall and find someone to take her off your hands... |

THAT will quickly separate the women from the girls!:D |

Send her an e-mail and ask her if she is going to be wearing panties on the date.
|
Take her to the Samuel Adams Brewery, Fanueil Hall, Plymouth Rock or something like that. If you said she is smart she will probably be able to teach you something.
|
Sensitive works if you WANT a relationship and are OK with being a ******* for the rest of your life. Show a woman how sensitive you are and she owns your a$$. First date should be to see if she can cook, then check to see if she has them extra wide-child bearin hips.
|
Interesting take on sensitivity. I can just see the redneck, truck drivin beer swilling folks out there salivating--and that's just the women!!!
Hee hee. I was just havin fun with the Mall, but it does give clues as to basic behavior. Wouldn't it be nice if her first stop was the tool department at Sears? God, what ever happened to the concept of "equals"? Or does that develop in long time relationships only? First dates are a crapshoot. No single right approach. Too "macho" and you may never hear from them again (not that you would want to, if she is into that type of total domination). Too much consideration and there is that danger of the dominatrix in her coming out and you are toast. A fun topic. Let us know how it goes...... |

Looks a little crowded at her place.............better off some place else.

Dinner sounds a nice idea, and bring flowers.
And have a few jokes to break the ice if the evening seems a bit uncomfortable at times. If (like me) you can't remmember jokes have a small cheat sheet in your pocket. |

Oh yeah...and I agree with him. Of course I haven't been on a first date since 1980 so what the He77 would I know. |
Here's a pic
3 Words: verify, verify, verify. |
If it was me (and it has been before, so to speak), I'd usually call a first meeting with someone online less than a date. Coffee is usually a safe bet, just to meet someone. It can be as short as you can chug a cup of joe -- 15 minutes, to be polite -- or as long as you can slowly sip it, with follow-on afterwards, if necessary.
But you sound fairly confident that it won't be a complete failure, so dinner isn't a bad call. Be careful not to pick someplace too over the top, though. Public, friendly, inviting -- not candle-lit romantic with a waiter named Gascon, preferably. Ideally, dinner should take less than an hour. Sit down is definitely preferred, but I think you'll be happier if you go someplace casual. At that point, be prepared for some eventualities. If it went poorly, be prepared to tell her so. If it went well, and you'd like more time with her, have a good follow-on ready. I always prefer something totally random. Say, making graham-cracker houses, or going to one of those silly "paint your own pottery" shops, or something. Something more in the box might be coffee on the boardwalk (if you have one handy). OTOH, it may be best to keep it short, cutting her off right after dinner -- send her away wanting more of you. But then, I've been a student of the school of dating for long enough that I really should have graduated with honors by now. Related thought -- if that's the only pic you have, I'd consider some healthy skepticism. It's the 21st century, and everyone and their dog has a digital camera. Cell-phones come with digital cameras, for crying out loud. I remember when cell-phones were team-operated devices described as "man portable." If a girl's best photo is a scanned shot from the 80's where she's sharing a couch with 6 different people ... 'nuff sed. Let us know how it goes. :) Dan |
Take her to the Union Oyster House and get Oysters!!
|
Take her to a strip club and buy her a lap dance.
