LMAO! I think people are motivated by action: one man steps in, others will follow, especially if the cause is noble. I'm 6'2" and 230lbs. I'd have a crack.... after Eric hits him with the chair for me! :D

SteveStromberg 02-24-2005 02:10 PM

I saw that . I would of put that As Hole in a world of hurt.

Jamie79SC 02-24-2005 02:17 PM

I may have read more into Jeff’s post than was actually there. However, the Angry White Guy crap that you run into on this board of generally well off white guys driving Porsches hits about the same raw nerve in me as does the Jesse Jackson "it's all racially motivated" line that you hear in the news.

The fact is - a guy getting the stuffing kicked out of him sucks regardless of the skin colors involved.

If I make it to the Alfa day, Jeff, let's have a pizza, otherwise it's bacon and eggs at the XXX in May.

911S Targa 02-24-2005 02:21 PM

I would have jumped in. Only takes about 2.1 seconds to take a big man down like that.

VINMAN 02-24-2005 02:28 PM

People nowadays are too self centered and concerned about themselves to help anyone else out. Hell, they might not make it home in time to catch "American Idol", or have to put down the cell phone for a minute! Priorities are backwards. But I agree with Adam, I think if one person stepped in others might jump in too. At least thats what I've seen from my experiences.

A nice pizza paddle across the side of the head does wonders!:D http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/paddel.gif

Man that's tough to watch. Of course we "want" to think we would step in and help but actually being there vs. watching some news clip are dramatically different. That said, would I have stepped in. I would have wanted to, and would be sick with myself had I not, but honestly, I don't know. I think my biggest concern would be that the guy had a gun or knive and was willing to escalate the minute it was going against him.

rcecale 02-24-2005 03:01 PM

Vinman,

If you're anything like the guy in your avatar, I think you just might have a chance against the big guy in the video. I've been watching for several minutes now and the beating yyour avatar is giving someone hasn't let up one bit! :D  :D

300# guys are usually fat, slow and out of shape. you just can't let them get a bear hug on you.

Exactly...if a guy this big gets a grip on you, you'd better have a way of taking him out quick...Everybody knows the saying "the bigger they are, the harder they fall". The guy who said this was a middleweight boxer about to take on a true heavyweight in the old bare knuckle days. The heavyweight creamed him...

Sounds good, Jamie. Hopefully we can hook up in Portland; I'm really looking forward to driving there. It will be my first time at PIR. And sorry again about striking that nerve. I should try not to be such a smart-ass all the time, even though it does come quite naturally for me. Sometimes I'm just not that sensitive to others' feelings when I fire one off like that.

Anyone been to a Dog Brothers event?
http://dogbrothers.com/wrapper.php?file=gathering.htm

I like a good stick fight now and again. The Brothers used to meet the park in Hermosa but the next event is in El Segundo. It a lot of fun but you are kinda sore for a couple of weeks.
Surf Dog and I go way back.

You are so right; I have been in identical situations as this except w/ more than one huge guy throwing punches when I worked in clubs 10 or 15 years ago. It can be pretty scary, but it helps to remember that you can grab someone from behind if you know what you are doing who would kill you face-to-face. You never want to get into a boxing match in these deals, just a wrestling/jui-jitsu match where the match begins w/ your forearm around his neck from behind. Piece of cake. ;) :D

Seriously, I have seen beatings that resulted in death or permanent disability, if I saw something like this and had the option I would use whatever force necessary to stop it, up to deadly force.

lendaddy 02-24-2005 05:31 PM

Steve.................F that my man! Watched a couple vids and well uhhh not so much. You do that?

speeder 02-24-2005 05:33 PM

Also, I understand where Higgins came from w/ that remark, we live in a society where race colors our perception about events in many ways, but really a thug is a thug is a thug. I know white MFers who are just viscous, violent people. Black ones too. Brown/Red/Yellow ones too. People are people, unfortunately.

Sure Everyone has a good time and we all leave as friends.

rcecale 02-24-2005 06:22 PM

Hey, Gang!

A few of you asked me to send you a copy of the video. A couple of the ones I've sent have been returned because of the size. I didn't bother looking before I offered it, but the video itself is a little over 14 Mb in size. If you still want it, let me know and give me another e-mail address which will accept a file of that size and I'll be happy to re-send it.

Getting back to the content of the video, I'm curious why no one bothered asking just how the guy with the video camera came to be recording it. Since the camera shows a vantage point from behind the counter, it would seem safe to assume it was a store security camera. And since the camera was following the action, zooming in and out, it would seem that someone was working the controls. If this thing goes to a civil case, I'll just bet that will be a major topic of "discussion" during the trial.

Christ man, none of the above excuses matter. I'd have helped. Sometimes you have to step up to the plate, even if the odds are against you. It's only right.
