2-Seater

How many of you have a two seater and a child/baby? I was curious how you work it out. My wife has a four door and I may get a two seater soon, but does it make sense?

I don't have a wife and child yet, but I do intend to keep the 911 when I do. I'll just keep a second car, making the Porsche purely "toy" material, that's all.

My 2yr old girl and 6yr old boy love the Targa. They sit in the back seat which is just the right size. The 77 doen't have seat belts so we don't go to far out. When it is just one of them, they sit eup front and belted. I have a Volvo and a Honda Pilot but I feel just as safe in the Targa as those cars - and thats in Texas where if you don't have a bigarse truck you best have an SUV.

Mike - Do you have to put car seats in the back or front to hold those kids?

Here in the good old people's republic of CA kids have to be in a car seat until they are 6 AND 60 pounds. Infants of course have to be a rear facing car seat. As of this year if there is a backseat at all kids *MUST* be in it. Of course there is no way I can fit a rear facing car seat in the back of the 911 so I called the police station locally here and they said I had an out - the car seat not fitting back there was as good as there not being a seat back there. Stupidest laws ever I think. Soon enough all kids will have to be brought up in rubber padded rooms. It's for their own good.

Anyway - I have an infant - he's just over two months old. He hasn't spend much time in the porsche but I have put him in the front passenger seat in his car seat facing backwards on occasion. Our other car is an Xterra so there is no problem there. We just make sure that whom ever has the baby also has the proper auto. Hope you don't have a problem with your Wife driving the Porsche. I don't - we're in this together and that car is hers as well. She doesn't seem to think that we need another car but I do simply because I don't want to worry about it. The reality is though we probably don't need it. Once the kid is old enough to turn around the other car seat should fit in the back though I haven't test it. The problem isn't really the seat but the belts back there were too long and couldn't be tightened around the seat.

Just to be more clear:

1) My wife cannot drive my car (stick).
2) Kid is on the way.
3) I own a Boxster.
4) Wife has a Sport Ute.

Will life work under these conditions? Should I get a 911 for the back seat? Should I buy a Trip so she can drive it?

Mikester,
I only drive out of the neighberhood with one - and they sit up front. The 77 doen't have airbags so it is cool. Normally, it is my 6yr old and he wieghs almost 60lbs so he doesn't need a car seat. As far as Lisa driving the car - she hasn't in about a month. The last time, she backed it into my Volvo, put a little dent in my door. I didn't say a word as I watched. She gave me a sheepish grin and never said a word. I give her about 8 months before she gets up the nerve again. Prior, she liked zipping around in it but did say the clutch and shifting was something she had to get used to.

P-car: The boxter is a nice ride but I'm partial to the 911. Get her involved in some DE's with your local PCA chapter. She may catch the bug and want to do some runs.

You may want to reconsider the additional purchase of a 911. Your wife may be the most understanding and coolest thing around but when the baby comes, momma is gonna have some mood swings for sure, additional purchases that are not baby related will go over like a fart in a dive bell.

Also, keep in mind, unless you are rich as Trump, that little bundle is gonna drain your Porsche budget. A 911 maybe a pipe dream. One way to save some serious bucks is to have her nurse. This will save you large believe it or not. The upside is it is better for the kid, it's free and momma retains a nice set that you can also enjoy!

When my daughter was in the rear facing seat she would get strapped to the passenger seat and my ex who is pretty tiny would sit in the back. Then when she was old enough for a forward facing seat I found one that fit nicely into the back of the 930.

A 911/930 is a four seater though, even if the rear seats are only suitable for midgets and small children.
