BG,
Maverick was a wussy. I know Randy "Duke" Cunningham and he could wipe the deck with Tommy Cruise with one arm tied behind his back. Duke was the one that Top Gun was modeled after and you could not have a better guy on your wing or next to you in a bar. Tim, Cannot wait to see that project when its done. What type of engine are you putting in it? JoeA

I picked up a Lycoming IO-360 C1C, that had blown off (yes off) a cylinder in flight. It has low hrs but will need some $$$ thrown at it. I built this from plans (lot of work). The only part I purchased pre-built was the 7075 aluminum spring gear. The douglas fir/sitka spruce/plywood wing is in primer. The 4130 fuse is painted and all sheet metal made and fitted. I built an oven and blew my own canopy and designed the latching jettison mechanism. I welded up my own fuel tanks etc etc.
I still need to fab up a engine mount and a cowling which I have a mold for from a friend. I need to pick up a radio and instruments. 90% done, 90% to go as they say! I got side tracked a couple years ago with customer jobs and personal cars. I need to get my priorities straight (right after I finish my 911)!

Pretty neat video. I had the opportunity to see some of Patty's flying this past Fall. Simply breathtaking. My office backs up to the runway at a small airport here in Richmond. One Friday at lunch time I heard what sounded like a high-powered prop plane buzzing our office. It kept happening, so several of us ran outside to witness this little plane being tossed about in the air as though it were a toy. I kept saying to myself, " Man, that guy sure has balls!". I was getting scared just watching! Of course I found out later that day that it was Patty Wagstaff, and she was warming up for an airshow that weekend. I brought my wife down the next day (Saturday) in time to see Patty perform. I have to say I have never witnessed such an amazing display of control, talent, and just plain nerve. I sent her an email (via her website) the next day to pay her a compliment. She graciously returned the email a few days later thanking me for the praise. Nice lady.
