For the same reason we don't wear parachutes. It wouldn't do anygood.

I attend the EAA fly-in in Oshkosh, WI, annually. One can see this kind of activity for days on end. I highly recommend it.

Not sure about you but everytime I fly aerobatics I wear a chute! Last time I looked the FAA has a regulation about it as well. It is low at times but the newest chutes will open if you can get the handle pulled with 200 feet to go. (not looking forwards to trying that!)

Thats not Patty in the SU-31. Patty is a nice (somewhat crazy) lady and very good pilot. Very easy to talk with and loves to talk flying. We used to have our PoBoxes at the same facility years ago (in Tucson) and ran into each other often. She is blonde now BTW.

http://www.pattywagstaff.com/

Good shots of some nice flying as well as personal shots of Patty.

That wasn't Patty. I saw her in her Extra-300 at OshKosh a few years ago, just some incredible flying. It's what inspired me to build an RC version.

Those things have amazing power to weight ratios... They need it though, If you lost power the thing would tip stall in a heartbeat.. Landings were fast.... I didn't rig this one up for flaps so you had to be dead-nuts on first approach...

AWESOME video. Thanks!

Wow, cool video! Caps, Suks, and Extras oh my ! As Joe and others mentioned, the female pilot wasn't Patty. That was a Sukhoi, and Patty flies a highly modified Extra 300s. However, I believe that inverted ribbon-cut in the video is her signature air-show move (that has been adopted by others).

As Joe also mentioned, Patty is a great lady, and an extremely skilled pilot. She is from my hometown of Anchorage, AK, and I had the good fortune to talk with her on a few occasions and different events growing up as a kid (and aviation buff). No matter how brief the conversation, I always learned something new and interesting.

I think the female pilot in the video is named Svetlana (can't remember her last name), who is/was on the Russian National team, and a who is/was the woman's aerobatic world champ.

Oh, and I'd have to agree about wearing a parachute when flying. Pretty cheap insurance, and pilot rigs are very slim and unobtrusive these days. I think Joe and I are kind of biased though, as we have been known to actually use them on purpose!

My grandfather andmy uncle went a few years ago and came back with some great pics. I would love to go some day.

Quick question what are the small triangular fins under the wing for? Stability?

Clearly my joke skills need improvement.

I meant pilots (they) need helmets like Porsche drivers (we) need parachutes.

A little Googling revealed there are two Svetlanas in aerobatic competition today...both fly Sukhois.

ANYway, this one appears to be Svetlana Kapanina.

The other one is Svetlana Fedorenko.

And apparently there's a different Svetlana Fedorenko looking for a husband on russian-women.com, in case Richard's still hunting....
