I've HAD IT!
I have a wife of nearly 3 decades who is still with me. House, cars, all paid for. I pay nobody or no financial instution interest. To the contrary, people and government pay me interest, the best contract paying 9% APR. I love my wife, my home. I have only 3 cars, one of which may be considered desireable. My only child, adopted, now lives 1/2 of the continent away. Thanks to the education and values she got through her parents, mostly her mom, she is perfectly able of taking care of herself, and is quite happily wearing out, sexually, probably mentally, her 2nd hubby, a USAF Sgt. who isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer. ...
So tell me, at an age approaching 62...WHY am I generally pissed off about "stuff"? My thought? Because it's for damned sure that I don't look good naked anymore...:) |
So this is what I have to look forward to when I'm twice the age I am now. Great. Stuff ALREADY pisses me off all the time...
I'm headed out to the garage to fire up the car and take some NoDoz...g'night... |
You don't drive the Porsche often enough.
|
The difference is that when we all get older, we have a bit more patience and the "stuff" that pisses us off simmers a bit longer, as opposed to taking a hand grenade or some C4 and blowing it to bits as we would (or already have) when younger.
"Stuff" does perturb me but not as much as when I was in my 30's or 40's and I just laugh at most of it, especially when I do something silly... JoeA PS having a 32 year old girlfriend who does wear me out sexually helps. :) |
You've been hanging around too many angry liberals, and their irrational hate for everything is rubbing off on you.
|
Paul, I'll be 28 in July. I owe a lot of people money right now. I'm still paying more in interest on my mortage than I am the premium. Ive been married for a little over a year and I spend Sunday-Thursday every week away from my family on the road with my work.
One of these days I hope to have worked hard enough in this life to owe no one any interest, to own some cool cars, to still have a loving wife, and to have a grown child that is capable of taking care of himself. If I ever pull this off, Im pretty sure I will have earned the right to pissed off at whatever I want. Until then, I have no excuse. Its just the way I am :) |
Thanks guys, for accepting and understanding my rant...Jeeze, I HATE being an old fart...until I consider the alternative. Sherman? FWIW, which probably isn't much, your 28 age life sounds a whole lot like mine was at 28. A 32 year old mistress sounds intriguing...until I realize that's younger than my daughter. Sex with someone my daughter's age? ARRRGH! I mean, what do you talk about afterwards? "Where were you when Kennedy was shot???" "What do you think of the Abby Road Album?"
|
I just turned 30, and stuff has been pissing me off for years. Don't get me started again on health insurance companies.

and to think I was doing just fine, thank you, until I started reading this damned thread...
now I'm really pissed! thanks a lot!! the nerve... |
I wanna be like you, Brian. Damn, that's actually exactly where I want to be in 15 years (i'm 20 now) :)

I think that we live in a generally pissed off society. Anger and discontent are highly contagious.
Personally, I find I'm a lot happier if I avoid TV news - local, national, CNN etc. I have a few internet sources for the headlines to stay informed, but the in depth analysis of everything that's wrong with the planet is emotionally draining. Ignorance is bliss, right? That list of everything that's right in your life... write it down and read that list at the beginning of each day. The little "stuff" will seem more trivial. As Cheryl Crow sings in one of my favorite songs... "It's not having what you want, it's wanting what you got." My dad spent much of his life a very angry man. After my mom died he figured out that his daily mood was a conscious choice. At 65 he chose happiness instead of anger. He chose to be happy for the final 13 years of life. I only wish my mom had been around to see it. |
young and innocent
Man i really don't want to grow up after hearing all this great news that i will encounter one day. GREAT! thank god i am only 17....got a looooooong way to go!
p.s - sorry you old geezers |
In New York, the brown rat (Rattus norvegicus) has killed off the black or "ship" rat (Rattus rattus) and the roof or Alexandrian rat (Rattus rattus alexandrinus) by systematic attacks and sheer population growth. Usually they kill by biting the throat, or clawing their victims to death. Then, if hungry, they eat what they've just killed.
So, at least you're not a ship or roof rat; that would definitely be something to be pissed about. SmileWavy |
I don't think it's an age thing...because right now, at 24, I am generally pissed about everything...well just about everything going on at home. :o

Poor guys... must be rough. :D

LeeH said it well. We all have things happening around us. You can't control most of it. What you can control is your reaction to it.
I admit, I'm one who still 'gets exercised' over some pretty stupid stuff from time to time, but through a half-century, I'm learning on what not to waste energy on. pwd72s: Do you have your health, do your loved ones know how you feel about them? Enjoy what you have in life, but don't forget to set some goals. Things could be far worse. (Hopefully that sounded deeper than "Take a pill") ;) Les |
I think that it's a realization that the world is a pretty F'ed up place and that there is NOTHING you can do to change it. On the good side, once I reached 50 I realized it was OK to say "Oh you don't like that?? Well piss off!" I have been trying lately to just see the stupid humor of it all. Kinda like the morons outside Schiavo's hospice trying to sneak in with a bottle of water. Now where were you going to put that?? Classic moron behavior.

There's an old, probably apocryphal prayer that goes something like this - Grant me the strength to change those things that I can control, the patience (virtue) to accept those things that I cannot change, and the wisdom to understand the difference between the two.
Submit to your deity of choice. I guess with age comes wisdom, and I agree that LeeH summed it up best. I am at the ripe old age of 44, and I still do not fully understand the difference referred to in the prayer. So yeah, I still get pissed at things beyond my control, but mostly I choose not to. Now, the 32-yr old mistress.... that makes me pissed! :D LeRoux |
