Personally, Fint, I think a lot of people are more to the center than they or their party realizes. But unfortunately, they get suckered away from that center by their own party's need to be angled 180-degrees away from the opposing party's interests, thus throwing both democrat and republican votaries into either extreme liberal or conservative positions - and I'd hasten to say many who are put in those positions by their parties, don't like it.

Throw me in as agreeing to that as well - it even intuitively makes sense that the majority of people should be in the centre (or I was lied to in school about bell curves and normal distribution).
