When Will We See The Porsche LMP2 Car?
I was watching the ALMS Road Atlanta on Tivo tonight (great Porsche-Panoz dice near the end) and the Porsche/Penske LMP2 entry was discussed a lot.
The announcers said the rumour is that the aerodynamicist who designed the Audi has been hired by Porsche, and that the Porsche LMP2 is expected to surface before the end of the season and race at Laguna Seca in the fall. Does that make sense, or does it seem too soon? Also, how good do you think the Porsche race department is now? Weissach hasn't done any top-level racing since 1998 or 1999. Maybe all the best engineers went to work on the Cayenne. I hope this is a genuinely 100% Porsche car, not a Porsche motor in someone else's chassis. Finally, if you had your druthers, would you like to see the car open or closed cockpit? (Maybe the rules require open, I don't know.)

The Porsche is supposed to run the last few races - I don't think too many people know which race will be the first.
It is supposed to be a Porsche motor in a Porsche chassis, so it will be 100% Porsche. I'm pretty sure the rules require open cockpit cars.

I say we'll see it at Sebring next spring.

Why LMP2? I also watched my taped Road Atlanta race last night and saw four cars in LMP2. Virtually no TV coverage of the class.

I thought I read somewhere they were planning on entering the second to the last race of the season...in Atlanta I think.
