Actor Question - Comedy

Actor:

American (not British anyway . . .)
Probably about 65 - 70 now
Comedy only (I think)
kind of 'buggy' reddish hair

I have seen him in many movies - he is very good in 'character' roles

Who is he? He was on my plane from NYC to Toronto with his wife today. Gloria Steinem (I think - she was a 'somebody' anyway) was sitting behind him. They were chatting when I got on.

It's killing me . . .

Ian

Naming a few movies might help. New ones or old?

One of my midwestern cohorts nailed it.

Gene Wilder.

I couldn't remember his name or any movie names but I knew that I recognized him. And it was Gloria Steinem. She was speaking in Toronto tonight.

Thanks for the suggestions . . .

Ian

Gene Wilder starred in Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and had a couple of funny parts with Richard Prior in Stir Crazy and See No Evil.
Off the wall back then.

All I could think at the time was . . . . he was in a Western at some point. Blazing Saddles, of course.

He's looking a wee bit older now.

I just heard an interview with Gene Wilder on NPR and he's married to someone else, not Gloria Steinem. Gene was married to Gilda Radner and he stayed single for quite awhile then married. He also had non-Hodgins Lymphoma about 5 years ago but it's now in remission. Pretty interesting guy... funny, too!

He was travelling with an older woman - presumably his wife. Gloria was in the seat directly behind him. He was leaning over the back of the seat talking to her when I boarded & made my way to animal class.

2 celeb sightings for the price of one.

Then one day I hear "Reach for it, mister." I spun around, and there I was standing face to face with a six year old kid. Well, I just laid down my guns and walked away. Little bastard shot me in the as$. So I limped to the nearest saloon, crawled inside a whiskey bottle, and I've been there ever since. Blazing Saddles, a classic!

Taggart: I got it. I got it.
Hedley Lamarr: You do?
Taggart: We'll work up a "Number 6" on 'em.
Hedley Lamarr: "Number 6"? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with that one...
Taggart: Well, that's where we go a-ridin' into town, a whampin' and whompin' every livin' thing that moves within an inch of its life. Except the women folks, of course.
Hedley Lamarr: You spare the women?
Taggart: NAW. We rape the ***** out of them at the Number 6 Dance later on.
Hedley Lamarr: Marvelous.
