yep...more fish tanks

my 75 gallon got too small for the oscars and the pacus, so i picked up another 55gallon.
i decided against going with the salt tank setup i recently had a thread on.
the whole goal is to see if my oscars will mate, they won't if there are other fish in the tank so this fixes that.
this new 55 gallon will become a community tank once i get rid of the 2 big pacus.

the 75

the 55 with 1 lamp on
this tank will get new "ornements" over the next week or so
and crappy pic

Looks great

How do the oscars and pacus get along when they are that big?

I still need to get me a new fish tank.......

I never had any luck breeding South American Cichlids, so I gave up and moved into African Cichlids. I actually got tired of how much Oscars ate, I used to have a 30gal garbage can with an external canister filter that I kept feeder gold fish in just for feeding the Oscars.

I got into Africans and never had to do feeders again, as they are just as content on flake and pellet foods. I know part of the problem was raising the Oscars on live food, but I wanted to grow them up fast

Those aren't big...... YET.

I took care of a Pacu at a fish store when I was younger, that sucker was close to 18" long head to tail.

fish will only grow to the size of the tank they're in generally.
the pacus got to their 9" quickly because they started in the 75.
they got along.....someone would always get chased though.
i'd really like to find a new home for the 2 pacus, they're a little skittish but cool fish......anyone want them? free?
i want the 55 to have many schools of really little fish.

The outsie of fish will only grow to their surroundings, but the internal organs of the fish continue to grow. There in lies the problems. You just can't put a fish that should be kept in a 100 gal in a 50 gal and expect it to grow into a healthy fish.

Nice tanks BTW.

I have been thinking alot lately about getting back into African Cichlids. In the late 70's early 80's I had 5 fish tanks going then my family got into it and my dad had Pacus and some other Cichlids, no African though. I know there are many more varieties available today then back then. I use to love reading through all my books then going to the fish store or a importer friend in El Segundo to buy fish.

Thanks for the thread.

I did a Cichlid tank. I'll have to dig up a picture. I built a glass block stand in the middle of the room and placed a 55 gallon tank in it. It was pretty cool. Unfortunatly the smallest fish in the tank eventually killed every other fish in there at night.

I would have never guessed that little fish could be such a killer. It was down to it and a rather large one we named Shaq and then Shaq was killed.

I decided to go with a simple salt water setup. My 55 gallon tank in the galss wall would not work so I tore it down and ordered a custom 150 gallon tank and stand. It sits in the middle of the room. It has a filter setup that is different it has holes drilled in the bottom for the inlet/outlet.

I have some pics somewhere I'll find them and post them up.

My brother has raised Oscars, they are very cool fish. His got huge. Good luck with them.
