Brush up on your one line, politically correct, HR approved yet effective combacks. Put him in his place when he ridicules you in front of others...to the point of being speechless.

I'm surprised your boss doesn't pull him aside to straighten him out. If he's that obvious his peers/upper management will likely mention his poor behavior during a conversation...casual or not.

This is a time for psychological warfare. Time to get creative. Maybe a nice crayon illustration by your son with a succint message? Your son doesn't have to be in on it. Just between you and the manager.

Buy him a magazine subscription. Pick the subject (or should I say poison ) and have it delivered to work or "accidentally" to the address of the biggest mouth neighbor in his hood. Heh heh.

It's amazing what can be paid for and delivered via untraceable money order. Check out the magazines in the "alternative" section at barnes and noble...

This isn't relavant with Lube's problem, but I was a Cubmaster last year and I had a kid whose father's an Ex-con POS, but I alway treated him just like any other parent. Nobody else would talk to him (he's a scary looking dude), but for better or worse a parent is the biggest roll model in a kid's life and I wanted the boy to see his dad treated like everyone else.

looks like your son got a lesson in a-hole 101. i hope he isnt young enough to go to the prick in and tell him, "my daddy thinks your are a poopoo head". be the bigger man, and just file the info away. steamroll him silently.

Great story, David. Especially when one can see how potentially difficult it is for the father in this case, to be accepted back into the free world. Obviously there was a lot of damage in this father-son relationship. You probably did a good amount of repair with your "like anyone else" attitude to the father.

Sounds like you have a great relationship with your son. My oldest son and I have talks like that, and he can detect when someone crosses a line (he's almost 7). In the end, you're a hero to him, and he will continue to look up to you regardless of the opinions of this POS. I have developed a smiling kill-with-kindness approach that borders on the ludicrous, and drives people crazy. They eventually give up and move on.

Anyhow, though I like jeremy's baggie idea (LMAO), I would suggest this, it's the easiest.

Usenet is very easy to impersonate. Go on with an anoymouse usenet client (even google groups will do) and post TONS of crap with his email address as the sender. get it in all of the alt.binaries groups as well. This will elevate his spam level 200% in no more than a week, and he will never every be free unless he changes his email address. I have two ex employees that two years later, recieve no fewer than 300 messages (trapped at my mail server's spam trap) each a day.

This is going to sound like some hippie philosophy but here goes...

I feel sorry for those types. Obviously the guy is a A-hole. Can you imagine what it would be like to be an A-hole everyday, not liked, maybe no friends, etc?

I don't like being controlled By getting back at him you are letting him control you. I personally find "difficult" people a bit of a challenge. You know, let's see if I can get past the A-hole layer to the nice person inside. There are a lot of nice people trapped in the body's of A-holes. If they turn out to be A-holes to the core being nice to them to plays with their heads so it's win-win.

Life is too short to waste time trying to one up an A-hole Personnaly I think it is a waste of my precious Life Force trying to prove something to someone I don't even respect.

-Chris

You guys have me rolling!

Actually, this guy did a good job at slamming another guy (the new director of key accounts) during the meeting as well. He is a rather abrasive bastid. My company is loyal to the guys that make them money and he has been able to mangage his sales force - mostly through intimidation.

He did a good number on me and my boss a few years ago - really set us up to fail. We were given the opportunity to start a new business group and my boss tried to do the right "political" thing by going to him rather than one of the other sr VPs to get the thing rolling. We needed a sales channel and a territory to work this out in. This guy has the most time in and was the logical choice. Bottom line, he set us up to fail. Then sat back and said I told you so. Took some steam out of my bosses fast track but we were able to recover. I think the CEO understands to some extent but when you run a billion $$ co, you can't make harsh, sweeping changes unless it is strategic. Getting rid of this guy would leave a void in management that would be tough to fill. He does know how to work the system and also how to get the sales.

I will mention the incident to my boss, he and I are pretty tight. I will get his read on it. If I wanted to make this an issue, I would just write my boss an e-mail. Then it becomes company property and subject for action. I have to play this cool - I don't have enough juice yet to go toe-2-toe with this guy on the corp level. He would get a slap and I would get my walking papers. Not worth it.

Mike,

I think you have a good handle on the situation.

Stay on the high road. It really is the only way to do it.

Show them you are mature and professional. That way there is never anything to detract from your job performance.

I'm a fairly unconvetional guy. Long hair, kept a fridge stocked with beer for my staff, gave them comp days when I felt they deserved it, smoked in my office which is illegal in NY. HR hated me.

The company cut me slack because when something needed to get done I was the guy that they came to. I had nearly zero turnover in the depts that I ran and my people were passionatley loyal.

Above everything else I was always level headed, mature and kept the interest of the business as priority 1.

Co was going to rehire one of my former bosses who was just a tyrant but also could get it done.

CEO came to me and asked my permission, he wanted her badly but if it was an issue for me he would pass.

I told him it's not about me, it's about the company and if he thought it was the best thing to do that I would find a way to make it work.

He did not hire her.

Scott

Scott - this guy is a producer as well. I can't say he ain't bright because he is. In fact, he is a shrewd MF that can read a room and manipulate a situation. He can charm the ***** out of you and hit you when you least expect it.

I think my boss handles him the best. He just smiles and gives a little chuckle and says "now now" just like RR used to do. Nevr talks bad about him - maybe the only one that doesn't.

The way I figuer, my boss has taken care of me big in the past and as long as I got a nose, he has a place to sit!

Lube,

Although I do not condone the Fuchers method, he may have been annoyed that you brought a child to the workplace.

Sounds as though your son is well behaved, however he may not like the message going out that its okay to bring kids into the office.

Again, I do not agree or approve of his actions, but this may have been the reason...
