It seems like...reading this thread...that the common thread between disliking certain bands or artists...is to pick out one or two things that one REALLY HATES about the band...say the singers voice, or the organ solos, or whatever...and then base the dislike on that.

I can understand that to some degree...never got into Rush cause I didnt like the gratey singer's voice etc.... man its hard to please all though.

I looked up one of the groups mentioned here... an aging punk group from nearby Hermosa Beach called "Pennywise"...and I went to their MySpace and they are guys in their mid to late 40s dressing like 20 year olds and they can barely play music...its crap, yet somehow this band put together a 20 year career and many people here mentioned liking them...and they have tour dates all over the world...but to my ears they are not very good, even for punk.... and their image is somewhat pathetic...but to each their own... I give Pennywise credit for developing a fan base... 'cough' but what value does their music hold...where is the melody the musicianship? btw...I dont hate punk, for example I love the Pixies...but how the Pixies compare to that stuff is no comparison....
anyway tastes are so very diverse its a wonder that anyone can develop a career out of music these days.

That's funny; I didn't listen to them until recently because his voice is so clean (or so I think)! I kept thinking they were a hard rock (maybe even metal) band and would be totally bummed when i heard a song and it wasn't "Battery" or something like that. Then, one day i listened to it expecting no such thing and i got it! beautiful sound, great voice, very slick drums.....it's all there. And it's neat to see that the energy is there too it just isn't in the form of distortion.

The ticket to Rush, again, is LOUD.

In re. to pennywise and the like, the fans that i have met seem to take a perverse pride in 'liking' something that isn't mainstreamed. Kinda like 'im too cultured to listen to your mainstream drivel' is the attitude behind it. But life's too short to listen to crap you don't like so i'm sure most fans aren't like that.
