Wow...I was expecting some sort of "these are the kind of hacks we have doing defense work" kind of article. Seems that he took the time to educate himself and is very credible.

Great musicians are generally highly intelligent.

Creativity and intelligence usually go hand in hand.

Ever hear Ice-T talk about technology?

He gives lectures at Universities.

Dude is scary smart and forward thinking.

Henry Rollins is another like that.

Not a huge fan of Black Flag nor Rollins Band. But he can act, he gives lectures (always standing room only) and he does stand-up comedy. His public-speaking style is very polished and arguably better than most politicians.

I agree regarding Henry Rollins. Very sharp guy. We could get a whole thread going on people that are alot sharper than what their "persona" indicates.

I've always thought Jesse Ventura fit into this category. He seems like a sharp guy also.

I think we all remember Mr. Zappa's testimony to Congress in the matter of restricting access to art (ratings for music albums in that instance). It was pure entertainment for me. Frank was clearly, obviously, undisputably, the intellectual class act in that room.

It was classic Legion. Al Gore's wife Tipper was pursuing a crusade against raw lyrics and she'd fenagled a Senate hearing. Frank basically shut the whole issue down by pointing out the expectations. For example, if albums could get R and X ratings, then artists would be forced to spice up their lyrics in order to secure those sought-after ratings. A G rating would of course be the kiss of death in the teen music market. And so on. And his countenance, and sharpness of wit and clarity of thinking.....He was unbeatable and it was easy for everyone to see that. And then there was the best part. The goofy Groucho-like brows, the long ponytail and the jet-black moustache and goatee. It was like a bullfight and Zappa was the Hippie Matador.

Funny, he seems like a rather nice guy to me.. Seems like violence would be his last resort...

When you are that intelligent and built like a tank, I would think that Rollins rarely, if ever has to resort to violence. He knows he looks intimidating and he's smart enough to use that to his advantage.

Zappa was a great guy. I find some of his "pop" a little hard to digest, but I really like his "classical". IIRC, Zappa himself stayed away from drugs. Probably a good thing...think of the genius Sid Barrett may have become if he stayed away.
