Runaway bride indicted on False Crime Charge

I feel very strongly about her being held legally responsible for such a foolish act. Grow up baby! Time to face the music.

My question and poll here is on whether you think she should be held financially responsible for her actions. Several agencies have stated they wont charge her. However, Duluth is looking to recoup $40k.

definitely. Yes, she messed up and has personal, mental, issues to work out, but there's no excuse for the waste, fear, and panic that she caused.

If you call the fire dept. and say that your house is on fire (knowing that it isn't), and they show up but there's no fire... what happens?

He won the lottery when she flaked out! That's a billboard saying "I'm a flaky *****! Don't marry me!!"

I'da kicked her to the curb so fast, she would have thought she WAS assaulted!

She ran away. She lied to the NM police, not to the GA police. NM is where the crime took place. GA should drop and not throw good money after bad. NM doesn't want to bother. The local community over-reacted. Personally, I think she should be hospitalized and the guy should re-think his life...

Definitely she should be held accountable. Her mental ills aren't worth the expenditure put to task to answer what essentially was a false alarm.

As for her groom, he should simply be held accountable for his own lack of good or even semi-good judgment.

I'm sure she'll show up in Playboy in a few months.

No - they need to kick him in the nuts. Then again, if he's still going to marry her, he probably doesn't have any...

I knew they'd find something to charge her with. They need to make an example out of her. As far as the rest of it....I could really care less.

All of the money that was expended was "tax payer" money - she's a tax payer in theory so she is entitled to the police, fire and other's time in my eyes. Now...the other side of the coin is that this was it seems a premeditated act of running away. She bought the ticket ahead of time and arranged for a ride, etc...

Still...is it a crime to run away and act childishly irresponsible?

No; we'd all be locked up at one point for it. This isn't worth going after; the day before she showed up the media was out there trying to help find her because she was missing. Now the best thing possible happens - she's alive and found - and she's being crucified for it by many. Crazy! Damned if you do and Damned if you don't there...

This just isn't worth any more time - I'm glad she's alive - I wish she were a better person. In fact - I wish we all were better people.

Yep, it was a slow Newsweek.

I read up more on the indictment. She _did_ talk to the GA police and she did say she was abducted...so I retract my statement. If she lied to the GA police, she should be indicted.

As far as the re-imbursement, etc, I'm with Mike. She's a taxpayer.

But Island is the most correct. The sheer entertainment value of the story as it unfolded. Hell, we're still talking about it...

I don't really see the money as an issue. Calling the cops with a BS story about being kidnapped and raped, that's a crime. She could have took off, premeditated or not. No big deal. Lying to the authorities, big deal. Throw the book at her.
