convert grill from NG to LP help

My in-laws are moving to FL. and gave me their Weber Genesis grill. My old grill was toast and needed replacing this year so it was a welcome gift.

In-laws used it with the natural gas at their house and I do not have NG at my place.

Figured I would just buy a new regulator and use my existing LP tanks.

Come to find that there is a difference in flow rates between NG and LP and Weber says I need a new manifold. OK fine no big deal, $65 bucks to upgrade a $700 grill seems fair.

Problem is it seems to be Weber only direct part, they are out of stock and I have a big party this Saturday for my son's 2nd b-day and now no grill.

Any thoughts, suggestions? Maybe one of you has an LP manifold for a Weber flaoting around?

Never hurts to ask.

Thanks
Scott

Perhaps you can try a Weber parts reseller. Hopefully thay stock inventory and don't merely drop ship.

Scott, which exact model do you have? There are many versions of the Genisis. I can call a couple of large supply houses that are local.

Are the NG manifold holes smaller or larger than the holes in your old grill? I think bigger...if you want to play with fabricating your own, just get some tubing or pipe to match the old manifold, drill holes, cut old manifold, slip new tubes over the stubs you left of the old manifold, tack weld...get a propane regulator...

... if holes are smaller...enlarge them..

..if you need a new regulator, get one from one of those turkey deep fryers...it's adjustable and you can really crank you new grill to heat up fast using the adjustable regulator

Anything after the regulator is low pressure so you can cut and couple the hoses...

...yeah...so I'm crazy like that, but then I'm use to working with higher pressures try 1200 PSIG!

The NG orifices are larger than lpg, it'd be a pain to reverse engineer this for a weekend or two's use.

a weekend or two?...oh man...I use my grill 2-3 times a week when the weather allows.

...and what fun is it to just swap out manifolds

Not to start a p!$$ing contest, but try playing paintball (you're not far from Tri-City Paintball, Souk). A day of running, jumping, and sliding with a 4500 psi tank next to your head.

Here's the quickest and easiest way to fix your grill:

1) Remove all of that NG tubing and such.

2) Go buy a bag of Charcoal. It tastes much better!

(I just had a slow-cooked, smoked duck for dinner last night that I cooked on our 25-year old Weber.)

True Souk.

I use N2, CO2 will only get up to about 1300 psi in a tank before it turns to liquid at operating temperatures.

You guys are SICK!

Thanks for the advice, I think.

Rick, appreciate the offer, very generous of you.

I've got it sorted for this weekend.

Turns out the regulator on my old bbq went tits up. Home Depot+$20=grilling this weekend.

I'll order the new manifold from Weber and when it gets here it gets here. Till then I'll still have the old one.

Have a GREAT weekend and thanks.

Scott
