FedEX To Charge $1.50 For Signature Confirmation
A continuation of my rant on FedEX.
FedEX will now require shippers to pay $1.50 for signature confirmation. Otherwise FedEX will simply leave packages on residential doorsteps. After my recent experiences with FedEX, there is no way I will permit a package to be "delivered" without a signature from me. If $300 of Porsche parts or a $1,500 Apple computer disappears from my doorstop and/or is never actually left there by the FedEX driver, is Pelican or Apple going to absorb the loss? (FedEX failed to deliver a $500 Verizon Blackberry to me, and both FedEX and Verizon tried their hardest to make me pay for the $500.) Moral: when you buy something mail-order, take care - find out who is delivering it and who is responsible for loss. Edit: $1.50 is for a signature from anyone the driver can find (in my experience, this may well be the driver). For signatures from someone in the addressee's house, the price is higher.

Fed Ex always seems to be willing to do their job if you pay an extra fee. If its something you are receiving, pray that the shipper is well documented and proactive in the event that a claim needs to be filed. No matter how bad Fed-Ex screws up only they and the shipper will be in control of the claim process. The signature thing is joke. If your not there, the signature you are going to see will belong to the next guy who got a package that day on the drivers route.
