Tolerance in Christianity

PLs dont turn this thread into a pi$$ing contest.

I can quote the bible just as good (or bad) as any other <><

I'm asking this question for a very specific reason, as I need some help.

Which I may discuss further depending on how this thread goes.

Please debate and argue BUT PLAY NICE

Undoubtedly people may have seen other <>< posts replies I've done here or elsewhere, dont let that cloud you just answer the poll and give us some input

cheers Ade > ? <

I think you only need 2 options for the poll.
i.e. aren't the statements "Christian's are more tollerant of other religions" and "Other religions are less tollerant of christians" tautological?

I dont know.. Seems like we've got a bunch of Christian supremacists in our government, telling me what I should think, what I should feel, and what my morals should be...

I just remeber what my dad always said to me..

"Satan gives us religion to keep us from God."

That's the best quote I've seen in a long time!

My take on Christianity as a religion as defined by man:
God creates us, we ****-up pretty much the next day, time goes by, drowns everything on the planet 'cept a couple of nice folks, well, they turn out evil too, so what's his solution?

Send himself in the guise of his son to die, even though he can't die, and that's supposed to make everything OK?

Logic says that the Christian God is such a moron that he has to die for things he created so they can live it up after they die?

What's the message here? The meaning of Christianity is to kill your god?

You sure you're under the same government I am? I'm not Christian, and I don't see anyone in our administration telling me what I should think, feel, or what my morals should be.

With the rider that the more fundamentalist the members the less tolerant they are of diversity.

It's a tough one because extremists in most groups tend to be pretty intollerant. Having said that I think christians are right up there with a few other religions for being on a mission to 'convert' or make others see the light. However, most of my friends are christians and seem to be pretty tollerant. Hmm, tough one.

As an "intolerant" Christian I was doing some searching and came across this (edited to proove my point).

So I ask again, why as Christians are we intolerant to others, at the first sign of trouble we want to start busting heads.

-----------------------------------------------------

10 Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.

14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

16 Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Do not be conceited.

17 Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.

18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

19 Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: "It is mine to avenge; I will repay,"says the Lord.

20 On the contrary:
"If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head."

21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12

The thread was clearly marked.

You dont have to participate in a thread that you dont want to

as to who cares, I do, and if you have to swear to get a point across, I'd suggest a good Dictionary

Thank you for playing, you are the weakest link goodbye !

I like that take on it...

I think you are essential right.

I know people/familly. who are pretty intolerant then saying
because the bible says "......" xyz

as a logical person that does not always hold true. Especially as we are more and more being taught to respect other people and there views. WHICH <><'s should also do

I'm a new Christian (<9mos). The road is narrow and very easy to fall off. I think there are Christians who are faithful to their walk and those that say they are Christian though they have long fallen off the path. Those that study daily, and live in Christ will keep the truths you listed to heart and will be rewarded in His kingdom. It's up to the individual. Society has a strong pull though.
