Justice after all
Some of you folks may recall, a few months ago where I posted regarding a ticket that I received from a CA motorcycle Cop for "excessive use of the horn" 27001a. This was a $147 ticket and was not justified.
To recap, an SUV had stopped in a "Keep Clear" zone in front of a school, blocking the intersection and crosswalk of the children. The driver was going to let his kids out there. I was behind him driving a Dodge Neon rental car... after waiting 10 seconds or so, I honked my horn at him twice...after which he heard that and pulled into an open parking spot. The dumb police officer pulled me over and gave me the ticket. So... today I received word that the ticket was dismissed! I fought it by Trial by Declaration. I typed out a carefully worded description of the events, and included 3 pictures of the intersection in front of the school, complete with photos of the "Keep Clear" markings on the road. The judge agreed and I will soon be getting my $147 back. This is one case where the system actually worked well. Its not so much the money, but the principal of the whole ticket that really bothered me. The moral of the story is never give up on a ticket if you know you are right. cheers ![]() |

It does work. My wife got a ticket, one rainy day for parking in a handicapped space. There was no vertical sign and the painted sign in the space was so faded that it was not discernible in the rain and dusk conditions. We took pictures and there was no fine. The city came out and repainted the space so it is clearly visible afterwards.

Dude!
I'm so freaking happy that went well - I live in the area in question so I'm glad to see it went the way it did.

Excellent! Glad that you got it taken care of. Now just wish that you could find someway to get the cop put into training to stop it from happening to another driver!

Thanks guys. I went into the Torrance court today and they told me that it was dismissed....and I got home and the pink copy was in the mail. No notes on it or anything, just the box checked not guilty with "not guilty" written next to it. I get my money in 6-8 weeks.
Alls well that ends well, I guess. Coincidentally...I think I saw the police officer who ticketed me yesterday night.. He was in uniform, escorting a hot blonde to Hennessy's Pub on the Strand. When they got to Hennessey's she said "thank you!" and he turned around with a big smile on his face. Bet he wanted to honk her horns. jk. |
