No idea who Keith Olberman or McEnroe are. I get the vast majority of my news from the CBC - an arms-length crown corporation that doesn't have to answer to either the government or to shareholders to justify ratings, and thus I believe to be the most unbiased (and unsensationalist) news source in either Canada or the US.

Ok, I'm going to assume you really don't know(CoolChick does however know). This is an entertainment show on Fox. There is a right wing nut and a leftwing nut on at the same time. They both admit to being con/lib respectively and do not hide their beliefs in the least. In fact they celebrate them. Their job is to duke it out every night with guests. It's like political sport. It is NOT news reporting, it is discussion of the news from both sides of the political spectrum. That's it, they are paid to create excitement and arguments like this.

Now compare that to Hardball on NBC. Chris Mattews is a Democrat and has worked in Democratic administrations. They do NOT inform the viewership of this and the show claims to be unbiased. George Stephanopolis (SP) has a similar show on ABC (I think) he also worked in Democratic administrations and ran Clintons campaign. They do NOT inform the viewership of this and the show claims to be unbiased.

Fox News gives Hannity a show, they flat azz tell you he's a HUGE Conservative, hires a Liberal to debate him. And you find Fox to be the one that is biased??????????????

Uhhh where's my beer:confused:

Superman 06-06-2005 12:04 PM

Let's put Chris Matthews on Hannity's show. Let that other so-called "liberal" take a break from all that vigorous debating, and let Matthews square off with Hannity for an hour or so.

Christien 06-06-2005 12:07 PM

Ok, fair enough. I don't have a hard time believing the other networks are biased also. That's a real problem with corporate media. Though as I understand it NPR isn't that great either.

I also still stand by my comment about not mixing entertainment with news. Facts get distorted, truth gets diluted and opinions tend to end up being passed off as truths.

makaio 06-06-2005 12:08 PM

Sorry to highjack, but Superman, your PM is full. I just sent you an email.

lendaddy 06-06-2005 12:11 PM

Hey I admit Hannity is just a cheerleader. He is not a mental giant. So what, he tells you his motivations right out. Colmbs has a radio show (on Fox radio network GASP) and he is a liberal and educated. Much more so than Hannity, he's just not as entertaining. Like I said, it's an entertainment show.

Superman 06-06-2005 12:15 PM

I think it would be REAL entertaining to put Hannity and Matthews at a table together.

Belongs on a channel that does not tout itself as "fair and balanced."

Honestly, do you enjoy watching this kind of stuff? Because I sure don't enjoy watching such trash stuff that I agree or disagree with.

See the funny thing is, I do agree the interviewee is a schmuck. But Hannity...OMG right-wingers say our society has degenerated, well taking a look at people like Hannity (another good example is Savage and Rush), I believe they're correct.

Equal time means fair and balanced. So they cannot have a right winger on? Even if he has an opponent from the left? To me that is thee definition of fair and balanced. You Libs just love to hate Fox News, it's your whipping boy and I'll be damned if I'll take that away from you:D

Seriously though, you're more offended by that show (that spells its motivations and bias' on both sides) than by the network shows that keep their bias' hidden? What percentage of the viewers of Stephanopolis' show do you think know what his previous job was? Ok, now what percentage of Hannitys' viewers know he's a right winger? Soooooooo...who is being honest and fair?

RickM 06-06-2005 01:24 PM

BTW, the link works but the vid never starts..... :(

lendaddy 06-06-2005 01:26 PM

It took a long time to load for me Rick. Who knows.

To the point I was making earlier, the show is not "really" fair and balanced, despite having somebody on the left and right. Colmes is (or is made out to be) a complete pushover on that show. In my mind, thats even worse because it's done under the guise of neutrality...

That's simply a result of the bankrupt views of the left. :D

Truth always wins out!

The interviewee was celebrating the DEATHS of our service men. That was not normal behavior for Hannity, but I understand why he got so hot. Can't you???

Couldn't have said it better myself Lendaddy...
My guess is that you and I would disagree on lots of stuff politically, but the idea you and I are tryingn to convey goes beyond politics and deals more with how people view the world. I don't know how much clearer you could be with your explanations.

That was the funniest post I've seen in a while. Are the rest of you not paying attention? It's genius I tells ya!

Tishabet 06-06-2005 02:52 PM

reading some of these posts deriding Fox news for their lack of "fair and balanced" reporting is just maddening. Do you guys even hear yourselves? I mean, I think Fox news is absolute CRAP! But this show plainly represents itself as entertainment on par with open political debate... I am INCREDULOUS about Supe's first post.

Well to be honest, I personally don't watch any of those shows. I'm not really interested in someone else's opinion.

And I don't know if their "bias" is "hidden" how do you hide bias? If it's so well "hidden," then is it even so existant as the right-wingers claim? I personally think it's extremely exaggerated claim.

I don't think a channel who doesn't "hide" their bias and is straightforward regarding it should be calling themselves "fair and balanced." Sorry, my opinion, it's not going to change.

I've got to get out of the house..this is all starting to make sense to me....

I said Hannity doesn't hide HIS bias, not that the channel does. Am I really that bad a getting my points accross?

BTW, you hide bias easily, and to claim it cant be done is laughable. I think this may be your debating tactic, frustrate me with nonsense. You're doing this on purpose:D
