Max's Targa Wins a Concours!

Had a Fathers Day picnic at a PCA members house this weekend and a bunch of us had an informal / casual Concours. May son Max pestered the judge to the point he actually gave him a prize. Mind you, the cars were very very clean and in tip-top shape. Ours was the roughest of the lot fer sure.

When they announced that "his" 911 won a prize, the pride that kid had was measurable on the Richter scale. I owe that judge a case of Glen something scotch!

Pictured here is Max not wanting to get out the car until the judge heard his expalination as to why his car was the finest on the lot!

That's pretty cool, Mike. Kudos to the judge in acknowledging Max. I am sure he won't soon forget that day with his Dad.:>)

I can just see Max 10 years later driving that car. I'm sure he loves it. Hey, did you pull that insullation out from the engine compartment? I agree, kudos to the judge.

Well, it looks like him and I have/had something in common, although my family never owned sports cars. Jeez, I was excited to be in a '94 Toyota Camry at his age.

I wasn't but it was an 89 Camry. My dad drove this car until all the plastic instead was breaking off around you and then he sold the car and bought an 03 Camry. I however will not follow in my father's automotive footsteps and have my Porsche as a result.

Lube, congrats on Max winning the concours. Get him bigger shoes so he can reach the clutch.

I really bought the car for him and I to work on over the next 10 to 15 years. I was going to buy a late 60's pony, firebird or camero becuase they are easy and fun to work on but this one really fell into our lap.

Wow! Talk about dedication. Good for you Mike. Does the car need much work? It looks as if it is in great shape. I bet he will be the only kid at school with a Porsche in a few years.

Actually its in pretty good shape. It is an ROW that was grey marketed into the states. It doesn't have heat exchangers and to the best of my knowledge it has metal studs. It also has a trombone oil cooler. The engine has not gone above 100C and I have driven it pretty hard in the Texas heat (+100F) so knock on wood the engine is sound. The transmission had some syncro work and a new clutch about 8000 ago but is in need of a clutch tighening and maybe some bushings. The body is OK - some real minor rust in small places. I counted about 5 places the size of a pea. This winter we have hopes of stripping her down blasting her and filling the rust then painting her. A guy I know who is an excellent body/paint guy said he would help me out at cost. I can get anything as far as materials go pretty much next to nothing - the benefits of working for a very large chemical company!
